al4x
,,aand is a referendum the right way to decide...... nope as there are too many intellectually challenged people currently residing in the UK. After all they kept voting labour in till we were truly up a creek without a paddle
guest1957
Put it this way, would you like the LibDems to decide which main party forms the bulk of the government at every election?
UKPoacher
nope as there are too many intellectually challenged people currently residing in the UK. After all they kept voting labour in till we were truly up a creek without a paddle Yes, but up to 2/3rds of them don't bother to vote. Dr W
NO! It should be one man, one vote. It'll cost a lot more and take a lot longer to get to a result. The very fact that that slimy 12 year old Ed Miliband wants it is enough for me to vote against it. Also I think it's not actually used in many countries and those such as Australia that do have it want to get rid of it. The current system of first past the post has always worked well, no need to change.
D_No
Definitely against! It's p'ing me off that they are wasting OUR money just to have a referendum on it! don't they know theres more important things to do like scrapping the ban what worries me is that people won't bother to vote against it (like in the last election "new" tory voters that didnt bother to go to the polls due to the predicted landslide) Don't make a fool out of you and me, vote NO to AV! Willxx
The current system needs changing but AV is a cop out to try to convince is we have a choice, personally I don't want to be give a choice between one oxbridge educated millionaire who has been parachuted in from head office and only knows where the area is by viewing it on google maps. i'd make voting compulsory, with a televised prize draw linked to voting "Willxx has won a 1 year tax holiday and will be exempted from all income tax for the follwing financial year" or similar "Mr X will receive vouchers for 3 years university fees" " Mrs X has won an operation of her choice" and I would also include option to decline the option to choose any of the candidates

Its a pity you are way too smart and objective to be an MP though. We could do with more people like you in the House of Commons.
del.gue
I can see AV as allowing minority parties, like the Greens, in...Do we need more dopey cows like the one in Brighton wanting higher fuel prices?!
libs
Liberal supporters may put Labour as their second choice, Labour supporters may put Liberal as thier second choice. I highly doubt a Liberal will ever put the Tories down for thier second vote after this coalition and a Labour voter never would. All this means is an awful lot of LIB-LAB coalition government. No to AV.

pimpkiller
yeah its just another swiz to make people think they have some say in how this country is run. The voting system should be who ever gets the most votes wins end of.
*danny*
personally I think ALL the MPs lie through their back teeth to get in power then once they are in power dont hold to what they said they were going to do, so whats the point in voting? David Camerons policies were always about the rich getting fatter and the poor going without - people still voted him and now they just moan? I really dont understand politics, would be nice to vote for somebody that will make a difference to this country but how do you trust any of them? KFC
I think it's simply a cynical way of keeping the existing system, because most people will find AV too confusing, whilst making it appear that we have voted for the existing system which favours the status quo. Dr W
I think the current system has worked well over the years, we don't get hung parliments very often which we might under AV. Edited April 6, 2011 by Dr W

Vipa
It will mean we forever more have watered down parliaments where no one have a majority and therefore everything will be a compromise because no one will ba able to take the hard line and do what needs doing! No one will be able to make a decision.. The current system isn't perfect but AV would be a disaster... AV is and was being pushed by the Lib Dems because it's the only way, under normal circumstances, that they can be in power (or have any power for that matter!)
