alastair0903
oh dear , just getting them back in would be a bonus in my eyes . are the threads ok and not too damaged ?
BerettaSV10
Is question to clarify things have you been shooting the gun with out any chokes in the gun? For general sporting clays I tend to use either cylinder in the bottom barrel and 1/4 in the top barrel The other option I use is 1/4 in the bottom and 1/2 in the top barrel. If you have been using the gun with out any chokes in the gun, it would be a good idea to check the choke threads are not damaged and give them a good clean. BerettaSV10
oops thanks mate it will not happen again my coach for some reason suggested i removed them untill i improved In my opinion if a coach suggested using a m/c shotgun without any chokes in, I would be changing coaches. If your threads and the ends of barrels are ok you have been lucky. Think of the repair bill if the threads had been damaged. If as a beginer you might of wanted to start off with the most open chokes it would of been cylinder and skeet chokes then change as you got better and clays were further away from you. But never use a m/c gun without any chokes.

Dibs
Sounds like you are getting some poor coaching advice there. I would not worry too much about chokes as just another thing to distract you from your shooting. Stick Cyl in the bottom and 1/4 in the top and go and enjoy. If you pick up another 1/4 choke you can toss the rest in a drawer as you dont need them. 1/4, 1/4 will break anything on your average sporting layout. One less thing to think about! Gordon R
Keith - get a hold of your coach. Put him in the correct position and administer a smart smack around his ear. If he has genuinely told you to shoot without chokes, the man is an imbecile. Worse still, he is dangerous. I can't accept that anyone would be so stupid. Dibs
I seem to remember reading somewhere that it is a practice in the USA for some to shoot without chokes? Crazy imo, a shotgun is designed as smooth bored weapon. Apart from potential damage to the gun it creates an area of friction in competition with the shot where debris etc could get caught. Wouldnt fancy firing second barrel with a wad stuck in it from the first. Rare but could happen. Edited May 23, 2011 by Dibs

chrispti
I would guess when the coach suggested starting out without any choke, he meant use cyl (no constriction) he didnt mean shoot with out any choke fitted at all. At least I hope
