I have got to get a phone for my son as he is starting secondary school and gets the bus and just piece of mind for us.

I see advertised from certain phone companies (shops) that if i take a contact with them for £15.00 per month for 24 months i can can a free phone or pay a small amount for a better phone and get a free gift such as a Play Station 3 which normal cost about £250.00.

I know they are not free, but why should i go through orange or vodaphone ect. and get the same deal with no freebie.

Where is the catch :look:

Avoid 24 month contracts. Do you honestly think you'll be able to keep a phone in working order for two years?

Agree with your post + if he is anything like my son was I would question if he could keep possesion of the phone and not lose it leaving you with a 2 year contract and no phone.

"Pay as u go"(at least for the near future) on orange will give you good coverage and peace of mind as well as limiting costs which would inevitably increase.

I'm on phone number three now after 6 years, and this one is only very recent. If you look after them reasonably they will stay alive and working for a fair few years. Mine goes shooting with me, its been dropped in alsorts, but cleaned and left to dry afterwards and it sits it the workshop getting covered in God knows what most days, for an evening at least, but then recieves a good wipe down before steel and rust dust gets too far inside it. They all underwent the same treatment, and they kept on working. Just be kind to them :good:

Phones are changing and they become more fragile. Rarely do people upgrade to the old hardy Nokias these days.

I am on a cashback deal with e2save. I send them my bills in certain months and they send me cheques.

As a result although I fork out £50pcm for me & the wife, after getting the cashback the net cost is £2 per month. I could have had a free laptop/PS3 type deal but I'd rather just pay £2 per month thank you !

Drawbacks : -

You do have to be disciplined sending in your bills and they have to be sent recorded delivery.

If the cheques get delayed in the post e2save take an age to send out replacements.

You have to take the cheque to the bank.

You have to pay out the £50pcm to the network in the first place.

I only got a very basic phone with this deal, but I was able to put the simcard into my old phone & keep my number too.

Advantages : -

Save money

Only have to make 5 claims in the 2 yr contract

part of carphone warehouse so not as likely to go bust as some other companies (I hope!)

You get a 60-day window to send the bill in. They acknowledge receipt by text.

I have done three of these deals with e2save and not really had serious problems, but I have been scrupulous about diarising when to send the bills in.
