I take it you haven't tried running in body armour, utility belt and steel toe boots? We are at a huge disadvantage when it comes to chasing people, it is heavy and almost impossible to put your arms where they should be and I'm 22 and consider myself to be reasonably fit but I probably wouldn't have been able to catch the suspect in that situation...

Utility Belt? Batman had one of those. Couldn't you just knock them down with your Batarang or your Bat-Lasso before putting the Bat-Cuffs on them?

Toe capped boots are not compulsory.

If you know you are disadvantaged, why not do something about it then.......... get fitter/ train!

I think the police should have regular fitness tests (Hampshire have just started this) and have a higher standard set to pass.

Quoted from this thread:

I used to run for the Force and could manage a half marathon in 1 hour 18 minutes, and can still do 4 miles in around 26 minutes. But 200 yds with body armour and I'm knackered. It's not just the weight, you can't breathe properly and your body cooks inside the impervious covering. Forunately most scrotes can't manage 200yds either.

Tell you what. You put on a rucksack weighing around 20 lb and big boots and go for a run. See how you like it.

I saw the one where the coppers pulled a black fella in an M3. They thought he was on the phone (he wasn't) and then settled on giving him a ticket for an old fashioned number plate in black and silver (but no silly font or misrepresenting the letters and numbers)

I felt sorry for the black guy who called it right; this went against my natural Daily Mail tendencies. It showed the plod in a very poor light as minor fine dispensers

I saw that the other night...Police would not be honest about why they stopped the black guy (oh...can I say Black on here...no disrespect :))rewind confirmed plod thought driver was on moby, when he was not.

:(

A few in the family are plods...they have a **** of a job to do!

Yep, which they're paid pretty well for, and CHOSE to do. Makes me laugh, all the coppers I hear whingeing about how they get treated, it was their career choice, they must have had an idea as to what it entailed.

It's like joining the Army and then complaining that you get shot at!

But what they dont sign up for is the constant changes to their contracts, working procedures, hours, law changes and the all to familiar ''where theres blame theres a claim,'' health and safety amendments.

Coppers are increasingly having their own hands tied tighter and tighter.

And its not just a case of, leave if they dont like it, not much about work wise with the same pay and pension (which was also changed).

No one prepares you for the political turmoil faced by police officers from their own management. Imagine having no employment rights, no union, no voice in the running of the organisation and being managed by a set of nepotic idiots who can't do your job let alone theirs. If that is not enough the government seems to think it can change the terms of pensions and contracts at the drop of a hat.

Rubbish! Any other employees can take their employers to an Industrial Tribunal. Police Officers can only do that after they have been sacked or forced to resign. There is no right of appeal to any authority while you are still serving.

And who pays for the roof over their heads when they are out of work?

I'm sure you have it hard I'll not argue that, but what you forget is if you should happen to get suspended you're suspended on full pay  .

We all have it hard when it comes to employers nowadays and some unions are not worth the money.I'm in consruction and won't join ours

Useless. C**ts. And. Timid. Tradesman

Sorry, not going to wear that. If they didn't take a long hard look at what they were going into and find out what the 'deal' was, they should take along hard look at themselves before complaining.

As for the comment "And its not just a case of, leave if they dont like it, not much about work wise with the same pay and pension", well that just about sums it up. They may have a diificult job but thay are pretty well compensated for it! If they really don't like it then the option is to join the ranks of the less well paid and hope it's less stressful.

I suppose that sums up the difference between those that seek a job or a career.

Apparently the first 20 years are the hardest?..........

Sorry, Im not going to wear THAT. They did look at what they were going into, but it changed whilst they were doing it. Never asked their views, just told, ''This is how its now going to be done, like it or lump it''.

They complain due to the fact that they are massively undermanned and set unachievable targets, have more and more restrictions put upon them and appear to have the rest of the ''system'' against them also.

This threads going off topic.

The clowns on camera were "pigs" to people who were barely breaking the law - the black guy in the black M3 who was *not* on his phone is the case in point - giving that bloke a ticket for a black and white (vintage looking) rear number plate in my books really did beg the question "haven't you got something better to be doing".

I don't think the black guy actually said that but he did call them out on why he got a tug (they couldn't see his rear number plate at the time they went after him). What then followed was embarrassing and loutish behaviour on the part of the policemen.

If all the traffic cops act like "pigs" and the only time Joe Public meets a policeman is via a traffic cop acting like a pig or watching these dullards on the telly, then god help the Police's public relations.
