The H.M.R. Long Range Accuracy Appreciation Thread

After the 300 yard Coke can challenge failed I've been thinking about a lot of the

targets I used to shoot at and the range I took the shots from.

I know I'm not the only person here who loves the .17 H.M.R. so I'm guessing that

other guys here like to set themselves challenges others would consider

out of the capability of this tiny 17 grain projectile.

What I want to do here is start a photo and video thread of your targets at different ranges

detailing either your marksmanship or the versatility of the .17 rimfire cartridge.

These can be quarry, paper targets, soft drinks cans or whatever you find laying around.

I dont have any photos or videos to post at the moment but I'll be attempting a 200 yard egg

shoot in the very near future.

I forgot to add in when I posted this thread that it's open to image and video submissions from

all rimfire calibers

That's a damned good idea SAVAGE HMR ! :good::good::good:

A great chance for HMR owners to show the accuracy and versatility of this marvelous little round!

Edit: It's a shame that you are so far away from me - I would love to take you on with a 200 yard egg challenge mate :good: - Not that I would be able to see it let alone hit it!

I was thinking about painting the eggs luminous orange to make them easier to see.

If I'm checking zero on my HMR I'll shoot a golf ball 100 yards but I couldn't see

the white ones as well as the yellow and orange ones. Always carry a few with me!

OK Guys, just to get the ball rolling I went out this morning and took my 17HMR and my .243 for a bit of practice! I had to re-zero the .243 as it was set up for home loads and I wanted to use up some Partizan 100g ammunition I had lying in my safe. Anyway, the wind was quite blustery and was swirling in the quarry so I restricted myself to some balloons blown up to abouit 4 - 5 inches diameter. I managed to take the first balloon with the HMR at 200 yards (Measured the other week with a lazer range finder by one of our Rifle Club members) and then I went back another 65 paces with the .243 making a range of a good 250 yards plus!

I will try again another day when the wind settles using some 4 inch clays and try pushing myself out to 250 yards with the HMR and 300 yards with the .243.

Until then here is a bench mark for all of you to beat which shouldn't be too difficult for some of you.

First off the video of me shooting the 17HMR at 200 yards.

Now for the follow up video with me and my .243 at 250 yards plus!

Ok Guys, now let's see what you can do!

Here is my new CZ455 .17HMR Thumbhole Stock 16" barrel & some different types of ammo + targets I shot at about 100yrds to find out what my rifle liked best. When I get time I will put a target up at 200yrds and may be even 250yrds just to see if i can hit it. :good::yes::hmm:

Nice shooting Frenchie, it's a shame the Brittish weather is so windy.

Especialy seen as it's in a quarry, the wind comes from all directions.

What excellent marksmanship Beretta. For a moment you had me fooled - I was expecting a .22LR and thought 1375 yards, is this man mad or grossly exageratuing the distance?

Then I realised my mistake!

Once again, a real pleasure to see such a high degree of marksmanship, :good::good::good: It certainly puts my feeble attempts to shame!

I fancy having a crack at this, picking up from the 200 yard mark moving back 20 yards at a time hopefully I would stand more chance of tracking the shot placement ! I won £20 on a scartch card so am happy to use upto 100 HMR rounds to see what I can acheive...BUT..... how can i film this with a camera to show my findings ? :hmm:

We're going to have problems seeing exactly where the bullets are striking, I'm thinking of trying to make some kind of hi-viz target - like the shoot'n'see type but larger.

Perhaps a thick black paint over greaseproof paper ? Or maybe tinfoil sprayed black would rip larger holes than normal.

I'll experiment this week.

The new roofing tin(light grey) flattened will show strikes well. :good:

you can flatten the corregations by driving over it.

Or the white tin from insulated freezer pannels.

Try using a yellow crayon on cardboard, and then paint over it with black watercolour paint (as used in schools) It worked for me once.

Steve.
