I enjoy the dog scurrys, and meeting with friends old and new who you always seem to "bump" into at these events.

The said, it's also good to compare products next to each other before coming home and buying the better option online! Yesterday I was comparing high end Nightforce / Swarovski scope offerings.. something I simply couldn't do in ANY of the shops round here, pleased to say I don't own a nightforce :yp:

Mainly for a mooch about with mates and maybe find something I wouldn't normally have seen. Like the chocolate wine which, if tastes half as good as it did when I was halfcut, will be a great find. As Gary said you do get to look and play with a wide variety of stuff you don't normally get the chance to.

Oh, and you get to see big Springers :D

I'd quite like to go, but I won't be shafted financially. Sitting in traffic just to get rogered isn't my idea of a day out.

I wouldn't dream of buying a gun at a game fair :hmm: You just know you'd find it cheaper elsewhere.

Overpriced food and drink, queues and overpriced tat

I hadn't intended to go this year to the CLA this year, but I managed to win one of the tickets kindly donated by Paul Hart (The Pigeon Shooter) so decided to go on Saturday with my wife. True the car park was a 10 minute walk away, but it was quicker to walk to the entrance than queue for a bus, admittedly the walk back to the car seemed a lot longer.

I'm not a fan of purchasing from the internet as I like to see what I'm buying and make comparison with other suppliers, so having several stalls selling a similar range of goods is always useful. As it happens I bought 4 hide poles for £25 from Paul, a flapper set and a few more decoys and got a bit of discount too, thanks Paul :good:

There were some very fit bits of totty wandering about in various states of undress that soothed my weary eyes :innocent: whilst waiting for wifey when she disappeared into the many craft stalls.

I like a day out with my Mrs, watch a few shows buy some nice cheeses, pies etc, have a look at what's on offer buy a few small things and have a pleasant day out.

However I think I would only go to the smaller fairs which have less traffic and are small enough to walk round in a few hours. I went to the CLA 2 or 3 years a go and found it jsut too big, spent too long in traffic and didn't get to see half the stalls. I only went because I got a couple of free tickets, I'd have been annoyed if I'd paid.

I too was fortunate in getting a free ticket from Paul Hart, and having to buy just the ticket for my girlfriend took a bit of the sting out of the gate price. I went there not really needing anything, and ended up buying a few flies. I had intended to get one of those BASC/CA/CPSA clay lessons for my girlfriend but when we got there the booking was closed as it was too popular  Met up with a few friends and the weather was fantastic, it was a fun day out but I'm not sure I'll be rushing back.

thats the thing..your looking at £40-50 just for entry for 2 people,,then drinks food maybe a buy or two and it soons adds up quickly

I paid £58 for the whole fAMILY (4 OF US) I like to have a mooch around the stalls and you can get bargains if you sniff them out, the carts was a silly idea, and to top that off the dog food my lot get is £35 around here, at the game fair it was £20, but im buggerred if im carrting around several 15kg sacks!!!

Other than that, i enjoy the scrumpies, which i tried many, and the food, the wild boar sausages in the foods of the world bit were to die for, there were some great cheeses, pickles and pies etc.

We got stopped every 10 yards by people wanting to fuss Darla, my bracco Italiano, and it was refreshing to know that at least the shooting fraternity knew what she was!!! The viszla's recieved major fusses too, we were told that all three should be show dogs but hey thats not my scene, Lisa can if she wants.

We didnt queue to get in or out we got in early and left late, and still there was a lot I didnt see! I will do 2 days next year!!(without hounds!)

Overall they are a fun day out. :good:

I was discussing this with Bazzer yesterday.

It would seem to make sense for the cartridge manufacturers and others who want to flog blulky goods like 20kg sacks of dog food to have containers stationed in the car parks - place an order at a stand and collect your purchase from a container conveniently located in the car park seems to be a good idea.

I can't believe no one else thought of that or that or more to the point that Bazzer came up with such a good idea :P

Well, my first impressions of a Game Show, the CLA today...good day out as far as things for all the family and the arena shows were fun.

No real bargains, went looking for a few things (including a shotgun) and didn't really find what I was looking for bar one jacket that I think was a pretty good buy. I had looked at guns in a couple of shops prior to going, and I found them again at the show where thay had been marked up and then 'discounted' back to what I'd seen them for sale at in the shops!

It was overall enjoyable...but bloody expensive. It was much the same as any trade show now. A lot of sellers, but no real bargains and steep entrance costs etc....I'll not be hurrying back to be honest.

Thats what happened to the Royal Show, you would think organisers would learn.
