my best shot yet

I was distracted and busy lapping up and basking in the magnificence of your African trip that you just told us about and of course your long range hare shot which according to the title of your thread was your best shot yet it being noted that the title to this thread is the only thing you cant go back over later and edit / change to suit.

again I ask "what does sporting mean"

can you kindly answer the question instead of trying to twist the topic to suit your sad needs, its quite simple Iam sure even you can do this one thing,or do you need a few mins to google it

quite right "this was my best shot yet" previous was only 540 yards on a rabbit infact 2 rabbits so pulling off not just one shot but 2

no not really very speical as I can go out every day and probably find a shot like that <SNIP> the only thing significant is I beat by personal best so showing practice pays off

That reads a bit like "today I managed to hit one", which I'm sure isn't what you meant.

Out of interest ( as a complete "Long Range Hunting" novice ) what does a hare look like at 600yds ? I Imagine that it looks pretty small even with a fairly powerful scope.

Chaps we really shouldn't feed the troll.

Ackley has massive previous form for trolling. Indeed, I can't think of a single post he has ever made that wasn't a troll.

He must be very bored today. Or is that boorish and boastful?

far from it mate,a long shot has to be calculated and executed when the condition are correct if not theres always another day, uisng the right scope mate 600 yards isnt thats far to see clearly

Rifle shots and sporting,

well I would define sporting as where your proximity to the animal is such that the animal, under normal circumstances, would regard you as too close and make itself scarce.

So for deer, well certainly within 150m, maybe even sub 250 m. But in my experience when the quarry is over 300 m, and certainly 400 m plus, you could be doing star jumps and the quarry would not be concerned.

Most of use various techniques to get within the animals 'comfort zone', for want of a better phrase. If it was not for these various techniques, which can be bundled together under the term 'fieldcraft', then the quarry would be frightened by our proxmity and run away.

By going 'long range', all the animals defences are nullified, that is why it is unsporting.

I see and thats your take on it is it ???

so what happens when you stalk into a deer, rabbit or a hare and you get that close you could touch it,is that sporting ??

what about shooting a game bird on the end of the barrel where a definate kill is going to happen,is that sporting or do you leave it and wait for one way out of your confort zone with a chance if missing or wounding is that called challenging or sporting ???

where not talking about "fieldcraft" where ta;king about "sporting"

field craft is something totally different, but I thank you for your contribution at least you ahd a go unlike Mungler the great

also what is "normal circumstances"
