gemini52
shooting friend of mine bought a second hand hatsan, must admit have always only had negative veiws about them i bought a twenty bore a few years ago, first time out it siezed up and bits fell off, needless to say it went back. had a shot and to be fair i was impressed it came up ok for me and shot well hatsan have got there act together if i ever needed a cheap and cheerfull semi would give one a go
Peathag
Personally, I wouldn't touch a Hatsan or a Webley & Scott semi-auto second hand or otherwise! They are made in Turkey down to a price and fall apart quite quickly. Although Webley & Scott claimed a lifetime guarantee on theirs that of course would only last as long as the company will - saying that, they are now making some reasonable over and unders so perhaps there is a future for them. I reckon the best value little semi on the market at the minute is the Franchi Fast Black, taken over by the Beretta and Benellified it is recoil operated, lightweight with the Benelli system and at around £725 is a good little gun. sg1
I VERY NEARLY bought a brand new Escort as it was cheap enough but then I got hold of my Winnie 1500XTR (had the 1400 MK2 before)and although it's 32 years old, I somehow 'feel' that it'll give me more troublefree years than a brand new Hatsan But I don't have much semi experience so what the hell do I know lol atvb sg1

I know lads with Hatsan's and Webleys and they malfunction a lot - so that is where I a coming from. They are made down to a price and you get what you pay for - maybe they have been improved but I know from experience that a consistantly malfunctioning gas semi-auto will drive you round the twist. I have heard good reports about the Browning Maxus but I haven't had a shot with one yet. I currently shoot a Benelli Supersport which are overpriced in my opinion but it is a lovely gun and handles like a dream.

bascula26
My Partner has an Escort and so has my Son, both guns are 12g and kept very clean, have shot hundreds of cartridges and will cycle anything. So there you have it, they seem to be a good general workhorse and have given our lot good service. Any Escort owner wanting 'O' rings to replace item 416 on the exploded diagram, try Brammer 26mm x 2mm. You will not pay through the nose (£6.00 incl.VAT for 50) 12 pence each as against the £2.00 or so. CZ550Kevlar
Answer to another Hatsan topic in the styling of a man falling off a cliff, Noooooooooooooooo!!! Hatsans are good guns, just odd people with bad experiences, at the end of the day if you produce alot of guns you are going to see a percentage come back or faulty. I know a lad that traded his Supersport for a Maxus and loves it. Me, I love the Benelli - I had been on the lookout for a new semi for a while after I got rid of my gas Fabarm Euro Lux lightweight which I shot really well with and used for coaching too, but it started to mess up and I couldnt get it to work properly again even after buying new parts for it and servicing etc. So, I spent thenext 18 months picking up every semi-auot I could find in every gun shop I went into and I really liked the Franchi Fast Black for a nock about and training gun but then I spotted the Supersport at Doveridge and it came up lovely and that was that. Bought one locally and I use it for all disciplines SKT,DTL,OTR,STR etc and get good scores.
JR1960
Can only go on experience, bought my lad his hatsan a couple of years ago S/H, never had a single problem, cycles anything, in fact pretty faultless apart from the woodland coating is wearing through in a couple of places. Mind you he does strip and clean it within an inch of it's life at the slightest provocation, so maybe that's the secret.....

phaedra1106
Got mine in 2007 and apart from me jamming a cleaning patch in the trigger mech (which was sorted out by Edgar Bros with 1st class service) it has been faultless. Got the chance of an "as new" Hatsan Silver Select synthetic stock O/U off here and it's tight as a drum. Also got a "slightly used" new style semi off here a few months ago just in case my old one dies but no sign of it doing that any time soon

Ratman2
I've had one for about a year now, just can't fault it. It's never missed a beat no matter what I put through it and the almost lack of recoil is unbelievable.

If you put "Brammer 26mm x 2mm O rings" in Google, this thread comes up. I put a Hatsan Escort Magnum 12g semi, black synthetic, in the gun cupboard earlier this year so I had something that would fire steel and heavy fox loads. It comes pigeon shooting with me more often than I intended and I like it very much. Over 1000 cartridges through it and the only problem I have had was with some 2 1/2" cartridges. Everything else cycles perfectly.
