njc110381
Hey guys. I picked up my 7-08 today after I had it shipped down from The Countryman of Derby. I took a bit of a chance on it and bought it without even seeing a picture of it. I took their word for the condition being "good" and I'm extremely pleased with what's turned up. It's a Tikka 595 Deluxe. When I opened the box I really did think that the rifle must have been kept in storage since the day it was bought new. It's quite an old rifle but it's in amazing condition - and so well made compared to the Tikka's of today. The wood is virtually spotless, and there isn't a mark on the finish anywhere that I can see. I'm so happy with it. Al bore scoped the barrel for me and gave it 9/10 - quite an achievement for a rifle that's got to be ten or more years old. I really think this is a keeper and as long as it shoots well I can't see me ever getting rid of it. I don't think I've ever bought any gun and thought "I'm never letting this one go". Last of all, top marks to The Countryman. I'd recommend them 100% for their service and quality of goods.

CharlieT
Every Mole in Gloucestershire has been seen heading down the grass verge of the M5 on the way to Devon. The word is out............he's got a new boom stick. Enjoy it, I'm looking for one in .222.

The word is out............he's got a new boom stick. Enjoy it, I'm looking for one in .222. I'm on holiday in Devon in two weeks. I'll meet them down there! If I spot anything I'll PM you. I still have my email notification set for Tikka 595's on guntrader so if one comes up I'm one of the first to know. You shoud try it, it's a great feature! I bought my Browning BPS five minutes after it was listed. The bloke had to put his laptop down to answer the phone!

John_R
Sounds good. Mine is still in build, I have seen the stock and the barrel blank, and I am using a .308 Sako 75 as the donor action. The latter needs a minor bit of truing but all well within limits etc. I think it is going to be October before it is all done though... :yp:
njc110381
A custom is something I've always wanted to have built, but funds never allow it! I did for a while have a Callum Ferguson .17 Ackley Hornet based on a CZ527 - that would shoot better than .3" groups at 100 yards if I did my bit! Sadly I had to sell it as I couldn't stand the thought of damaging it in the field. It was good while it lasted though!
njc110381
I didn't know you could do that, I'll have a look now and give it a try. Thanks for the brilliant idea. Go through the motions of rifle - bolt action - .222 and .222 Rem, then view results. Then in the top left above the gun list there's a tab marked Make. Click that and select Tikka then submit. Then there's a tab next to the Make tab, marked Model - select 595 (there's one stainless laminate there at the moment but it isn't cheap) and submit. Once you've done that there's a tab at the bottom right of the gun list marked Save, click it. A box comes up with the option to name your search - I just put 595 in there, and then below that there's a box to tick marked Email Matching Guns. Tick it and then click the save tab, bottom left. Sorry if it's obvious. If it's not though it could take an age to figure it out! Once you've done that every .222 Tikka 595 that comes on will be emailed to you the moment it's listed. My only gripe with the feature is that there has to be at least one gun of the type you want listed before it gives you the option to save the search. If there's no 595 on there the closest you could get would be .222 Tikka, which means getting emails that you don't really want about T3's etc! activeviii
I must say, it is rather nice. im a tiny little bit jelous over the condition to tell the truth. the wood is rosewood capped and mint. it what im after but in 6.5x55 at the moment. have to wait so see if the FLO will do their part and allow me to pay £26 rather than have to sell two items to open two slots. NJC, are we there yet?
njc110381
I'm a bit frustrated at the moment. The mounts I had ready for it are about 2mm too low for my Bushnell Elite. I can't decide whether to put the MTC on it as I have enough room for a 44mm lens, or buy new mounts? On top of that, I'm not even sure Warne high mounts are high enough?! I think it has to be new mounts - I like the MTC crosshair on the .223 and it would be of little use on the 7-08.
John_R
Putting an MTC on that sounds like sacrilege to be honest.
kent
Now then think on, would you have held onto that .243" if it looked the same? I am sure you will find a good reason not to like it some time soon Those 595 delux were a nice looking gun though, has it got the metal bottom bits? Dunkield
Putting an MTC on that sounds like sacrilege to be honest. Indeed, if it is that good it deserves decent mounts (as mentioned above) and a decent scope. Let me know when are bored of it, I might be interested. al4x
Three words optilock, optilock, optilock come on they are too sensible a suggestion realistically no matter what the gun put **** mounts and an MTC on it and you'll be lucky to get it shooting right especially over the long term
CharlieT
Neil Can't you just file 2mm off the barrel where it touches !!. PS. That 595 has been sold, so keep looking for me.
njc110381
I'll try to remember to give you first refusal if I do sell it, but I doubt it will be any time soon. Apart from the .243 and a .22lr I had in the early days I've never sold a calibre because I didn't like it. I've not liked rifles I've bought, but that's not the same. The 7-08 fires much heavier bullets, much like the 6.5 and other rounds designed to go heavy and slow. I can't see me not liking it as it should perform like my 7x57, which I like very much. I completely overlooked Optilocks - I had them on my T3 and they were very good. I'll order myself a set later. Which height do I need for a 50mm scope? I think I had medium with my T3 and S&B 8x56? EDIT... Wow - £100 for a set of mounts. I know they're good but so are Warnes at half the price! :o Edited August 12, 2011 by njc110381
