D_No
Just seen this on the beeb website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-14797560 havent watched the video yet (work computers are useless) but it would seem that the only person who has committed a crime is the anti filming it! I'm thinking trespass (the pictures I can see seem to indicate the cameraman being on or over the otherside of the railway) and of course, in breach of RIPA? Someone will be along to steer me in the right direction no doubt but having limited experience of hunting with hounds I find myself wondering what, other than calling the hounds back earlier perhaps, could the huntsman have done? what rabbit
all i can see in that clip is a running fox and a few dogs milling about not chasing any thing.
Billy.
The video shows a fox running down a train line. A break in the film and then some dogs are seen. The fox may have been flushed, but there's nothing illegal about that.
J@mes
These things make me laugh "This is a main line railway, I don't know what would have happened if they'd have hit the hounds on that line." It would have made a ******* mess. "I estimate around a dozen [dogs were on the line] at one point which is a considerable threat to a train," he said. yes, 12 30KG bags of water and meat would be a serious threat to a 100+ ton loco. I've come across dogs which have been hit by trains at work. There's generally a lot of dog all over the place, but I never recall seeing a derailed train, part of a train or anything else for that matter
Catweazle
How irresponsible, that fox could have been killed.

NickP
Those dogs are very bad for running on the track but that fox is perfectly fine, never mind the hundreds of deer, badgers, fox and people who get killed by trains each year and I have never heard of a train de-railing due to them

JR1960
What a load of balls!! I've worked for the rail industry most of my working life and seen everything from lorries to people hit by trains, including a load of deer. A pack of hounds is going to make the sleepers slippery for a day or two and that's about it.
MM
the person in charge of the hounds wants a telling off. If they had to suspended the service for any reason, the fines should have been passed on to the hunt. simple as that. had the train hit the dogs, the train would have had to stop. thats when the trouble starts. if it was near a platform, they have to be removed as the public dont like to see that type of thing. trains running at caution will not run to time, hence delays and fines. Ive worked in the industry for over 10 years.
foxbuster
For *#*# sake!! These anti's are so bloody dramatic, and no, as has been stated a few hounds on the track does not pose a threat to the train, does make a bit of a mess though-have seen it happen. MM
it does pose a threat. not to the train itself, but there are other factors. what if some of the red jackets ran onto the track to get the dogs? what if the driver put the brakes on and someone o the train was injured. al4x
the red jackets called the hounds back and they came, simply they are usually fairly normal people who know better than wander on tracks. As for people on the train falling over well perhaps if they stayed seated they would be fine. This is just a BBC piece with plenty of bias going on, a couple of hounds on a track is the least worrying of most things that end up on train tracks. Probably give the driver an excuse to take 6 months off under stress leave though fully paid so everyones a winner

I've been involved with dozens of claims as a senior manager on network rail for over 25 years and I've had instances of trains hitting everything up to and including bulls and they don't stop. They hit, dogs, sheep, deer, swans, pigeons, pheasants, cattle and people all the time, if they stopped for every instance they'd never go at all. We had the trains in London running over a corpse for several hours because control wouldn't close the line just to recover someone who was already dead!! (Although the family did complain about that one.) And as for trying to reclaim delay costs from a hunt, good luck. malkiserow
Very disappointing I expected to see the hounds prosecuted and doing 40 hours community service, photos on crimewatch/tabloids and then tagged and banned from p1ssing up lampposts after 7PM. Oh yes, in this namby pamby, cranberry drinking, mind-th-gap, don't slap the beggar, illegal immigrants have rights, Mokalatte, don't let a squashed mutt spoil my dried Virgin decaffinated sandwich .... society we all live in
