Catweazle
This time of year my ankles are starting to complain, the paths are ploughed over and walking over the fields with a sack full of kit is killing me. Can anyone recommend a pair of boots with good ankle support ? I currently wear Lowa, not bad but more suited to hiking than ploughed fields. The Lowas have Vibram soles, and I add Sorbothane insoles to take some shock out ( I also wear them for my daily 5 mile + march with the dogs ). If possible I would like a similar spec but with stiffer sides for more ankle support. Ta. CW.
ack-ack
British army surplus boots. Cheap, very water proof, very comfortable and very robust. Only problem is that they're black and I hate black boots.

Paratroop style boots from Poland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, or Italy will be your best bet. Calf length sometimes almost knee length, and make of supple pig skin, but lots of support, just difficult finding spare laces for them, so order spares when getting the boots

I reckon the MOD cut will take some beating though. The west German para boots were the boot of all boots but they're all long gone now. We used to dream of a detached septic tank in the country. At least he had something to eat. We had to live under a cats-eye on the A40, every now and then a dead insect would wash in with the rain. At Christmas we sometimes got road-salt. But we were proud.....

We'd have killed for a dead insect. We got up for work at half past three, an hour before we went to bed, crawled out of of the sewage pipe that we called home and Mam, Dad, Granny, Grandad, Uncle Betty and all my sixteen brothers and sisters used to strain the silt out of puddles to make tea. Of course, no one would believe us now.
Redditch
A dead insect, are you a millionaire, we used to have to shelter from the rain under the poo of the dead insect, and smother ourselves in our house every morning to go to school, which was built from the poo of an ant colony, Pah, snobs and millionaires on here And a puddle to strain LOL, we had to make tea from ONE rain drop caught in a rusty cullender, people don´t know how good they have it lol Edited September 17, 2011 by Redditch
