barney 66
Hi, in the last couple of months i upgraded my lamp on my Ruger .222 to a lightforce 170 for foxing, this is a great lamping kit combined with my 8ah lithium battery. The trouble i'm having is with it glaring back off my predator mod into the scope making the bottom of the scope slightly blurred,i have noticed this as the evenings have got darker on the last couple of lamping trips, once you start to get over 100yds the picture isn't that clear. I guess there must be others who have had this problem, how do you overcome it and using what? i'm guessing the answer is extend the shroud on the lamp,if so what do you use, Thanks Chris
AndyCM
Some option that have worked for me are Butler creek on the scope (vertically up) to cast a shadow on the mod Wind the scope up a bit more Wrap the mod in camo wrap stuff (so soaks up the light & does not reflect) Some insulating tape on the bottom lens section of lamp (although focusing the beam is problematic) Tighten the beam by twisting the outer Yes, I have done all of the above & now mostly lamp with a mate & a handheld lamp Cheers AndyCM
Frenchieboy
Another option that has worked for me and might be worth trying is to make an "extended sun shade" for the scope and slide it over the end of the scope when you want to go lamping! wymberley
Infuriating isn't it!? Because no one is about to say I look a ****, I've taped a piece of stiff (ish) but flexible plastic about 8" long and 6" wide around the bottom of the lamp. The actual length is a function of your barrel length and the width is limited to fitting a filter if you use one. Having said that, I've learnt that the problem could be not light from the beam which comes from the reflector, but that coming from the bulb. Now the evenings are closing in and it's all lamp work I'm going to see if the proposed cure does any good - a round blank in the middle of the lens which obscures the bulb. I don't know the size but suspect it'll pay to start bigger and work down. Be interesting to see if it works.
M.I.A
Best way to stop it would be to wrap some camo tape over the mod, Jake pyke stuff is good, it doesnt leave any tape residue if you take it off either Edited September 26, 2011 by M.I.A
activeviii
put lamp under the rifle if your shooting off sticks. even down on the side of the scope. there is a gent called William that i have been hearing about that makes mod covers to order so i'm trying to find who he is so i can get him to make me a couple and a lamp shade at the same time. Davy Holt
Hiya, I had the same problems with my mod when using my Deben tracer max on the triple. Tried everything to stop it, painted it black.. still got glare, covered it with black neoprene.. still got glare, fitted flip up cover to the scope.. problem solved no glare anymore

sethb
Dont bother with the mod cover, the only thing that i found works is the sun shade on the scope, just trying to save you money, done the mod cover and you still get glare. Paddy Galore!
better still, move the lamp bracket as far back as possible, preferably behind the 2nd mount, the scope itself then acts as a shade.
bornfree
I tried the tape across the bottom of the scope which works but cuts out some light through the scope.so now i have a home made 4" sunshade on the scope which works brilliantly {excuse the pun}and you can leave it on when your not lamping. bornfree

Thanks for the advice, never thought of it like that, just had a look there is room to move it to the back of the turrets instead of in front,i'll try it the weekend.
