Welcome to PW,

You'd do well to keep a look out for the next Norfolk Flush, it's probably as much fun as you can have in a field without any sheep.

Great fun, great bunch of people including the bloke who reckons his wife can't count for toffee. :hmm::lol:

as taxi says , we are all a good bunch and the more the merrier on dec 11 .

Which shops do those around Norwich go to?

I've been to churchills, North Walsham and also Nelsons but Nelsons was shut when i went there despite having open displayed :S

I've come across two train of thoughts:

1. Buy a £1000 gun, once and keep it for years

2. Buy a cheap £300 gun and see if you like the sport and use it

I've been lead to believe if I buy a Browning for £1000ish, supposing I dont use it as much as I plan and sell it a year later I will probably get most if not all my money back. Is this true?

Thanks :)

Thats brilliant thanks,

Why anti churchills? I'm going to book a couple of lessons with Bill who I gather is the gunsmith at North Walsham. Also What do you mean by coopers being good if your a landowner?

Ta

i and many have been shunned for being a working man instead of a rich looking estate man , i dont like being ignored when i want to give people my hard earned .

billy is a great bloke , lives just round the corner from me . and yes he is robs gunsmith .

coopers is .............. well just coopers . if its a 1 on 1 conversation you want you might be lucky but dont expect any attention if a local comes in .

welcome fellas

as for churchills..i will never darken those doors again.....would rather run out of ammo than go there

been in twice and never again...not nice being ignored and other people served in front of you then talked down too etc and they dont like kids as had to take my little lad in and they were not impressed at all.....

I will always use philip now down in Attleborough..top bloke :good: had to take the little lad in and he was more than helpful

Welcome.

A gun is only one, or two, metal tubes with a wooden handle - They are all much the same.

Just make sure it fits you.

A good second hand is where I would start.

I agree with Pavman - Norwich Wildfowlers is where you should be heading for some real sport.

Alrite to both of ya , agree what others ave said about local gunshops/smiths , i can also recommend Chris Tanner at Wymondham, he's a top gunsmith ( Philip done his apprenticeship there ) & he's helpful . atb .

Chris is a lovely guy. He worked for Gallyons years ago and i've dealt with him for years. He is a very helpful and likeable bloke if you approach him in the right way.

I met Phil yesterday, what a great chap - very helpful indeed.... :good:

Spent about an hour discussing all aspects of the sport and he gave me lots of helpful hints & tips. I've been looking on the Internet and quite like the look of the Browning B525. Phil said that he'd get one in just for me to have a look and see if it fits, if it wasn't the gun for me he said it's not a problem because he'd just put it into the shops stock for sale. I thought that was excellent service

He also said that he would then make any necessary adjustments to the gun, very pleased indeedy....

I'm going clay missing over at Lakenheath today, I'm like a big kid, I can't wait - roll on 10 o'clock this morning..."

Welcome to PW from another fellow Norfolk-ite :)

I'd echo the comments about Churchills at Dereham, I was accused of being the type of person who would put him out of business the other week because I bought my new gun elsewhere.......not my fault if there was nothing I liked in his stock

I'd recommend Lings Country Goods at Great Massingham as being worth a look if you're ever out that way :)
