I really like the idea of this, however the whole taking it off and empting thing would annoy me after awhile.

I'd prefer to try something where by a bar sticks out the side of the gun.

Then on shell ejection, it hits the bar and lands at your feet.

Anyone have ideas or thoughts on this type of thing?

You mean like this?

Ok, this one is on a pump, not a semi, but it works, and drops the empties in a pile by your feet.

Edit: for the aesthetes among the congregation, as noted in one of the above posts, this is designed to work, not look pretty.

Hi Captain Beaky,

could you tell me what the material is please, is it heat moulded ?

thanks, Tedward.

It looks like kydex. If it is, then yes, it is heat moulded.  Someone on here recommended it for me when I was looking for a custom knife sheath. It is bought in sheets and is very easy too use. Very forgiving too - a wrong shape is heated with a hot air gun and reset.

Give that man a jelly baby 👏

It is, as you surmise, Kydex: 1.6mm thick IIRC, left over from a knife sheath project.

Make a pattern with card (the same thickness if possible) first.

Heat with a heat gun until pliable then mould it around a former (the gun in this case!).

Hold in place while it cools (hint: wear gloves...)

The curve of the deflector plate was made around a cardboard tube.

If you mess up, just reheat, flatten it out and start again.  Using a heat gun allows you to just heat one bit.

This one snaps on nicely - reinforced with a cable tie around each end for prolonged use.
