unapalomablanca
Im seeing it quite a bit already. Last week in oxford i saw the beginnings of flower and i saw a field in bedford today that was fully yellow. Does that mean a much earlier harvest? bunny_blaster
I was speaking to one of the farmers i shoot for the other day and i mentioned that some of the rape looks like its flowering but he said it was a weed thats flowering and not the rape. Cant remember what the plant was called but im sure someone will be along shortly and let us know. Cheers Ben
Gav912
The weeds called Charlock (or Carlick if you're from Norfolk ), if not controlled properly in rape it can be a real pain come harvest.
docholiday
The rape on one of my perms is about a foot high, never seen it that high at this time of year, makes lamping impossible, usually just have a few inches of growth until feb/march. Just wonder how it will fare in heavy frost and snow?
PhilR
I've been down to Gloucestershire today using the A & B roads and spotted several fields full of what appeared to be flowering rape too.

Sprinter
Was stood in the middle of a field of yellow rape on Tuesday waiting for the guns to sort themselves out so i could start flagging. While i waited i mused upon what could be the yellow flowers, upon closer inspection they are definately attached to rape plants, in this instance some 16" high. Catamong
The "flowering rape" you refer to is a weed called Charlock, it soon dies off after a few hard frosts. Cat.

Are you sure its rape! as a lot of farms are now planting mustard to plough in green as it contains a substance that kills eel worms that attack potato crops.
