SSS
Canon or Nikon are the best. Get her down to jessops and have a play with the cameras they have got in. I could recommend the Canon range, from my own personal experience. I just find them easier to use. Try out the Canon 550D and 600D. I can't tell you about Nikon though, I haven't got a clue. PM me if you want any advice on Canon. Edited November 30, 2011 by SSS

fat_jay
Thanks for the advice lads, given me plenty to look at, a trip to the shops is the next step for a little play
docholiday
If you are going to be getting into photography, I would go down the Canon / Nikon route, my preference is canon as I think they have the better lenses, buying a second hand body and spending money on good lenses is the best way forward, but do go and talk to the shops and read a few mags, join the talk photography site, lots of helpfull people there and a good place to buy second hand cameras
Billy.
I'm a Nikon man. I had Canon, but didn't get on with them that well. I had a D80, which is a great camera. Recently upgraded to a D7000 which is such a good step up. At the end of the day, you need to invest in a good lens. You could buy the best camera in the world and ruin it with a bad lens.
