Thunderbird
So what's the verdict (if there is one yet) of the whisky-ginger-honey option versus the full-on recipe with the lemons etc?

Thunderbird
I really fancied something gingery and alcoholic last night so I did 50/50 between some Stone's Ginger Wine I found in the larder and Bell's. Not at all bad!

Not at all bad! Known as a whiskey mac It goes down very well on one of my local shoots (too well)
Thunderbird
Known as a whiskey mac It goes down very well on one of my local shoots (too well) Of course, d'oh, should have remembered. My old grandma used to like it. Not too terrible a substitute I suppose.
welshwarrior
I used the recipe but added doubl ginger as it did not look much ( I'll learn one year) I cut it with more brandy and honey. It was cold yesterday and it warmed me up and everyone else as my flask came back empty after 1 round. I would stick to the book it will be about right. Thunderbird
Will do. I have to say it looked like a piddling little amount of ginger but I'll take heed.
Beardo
Hmm mine tastes like a boozy Locket. More lemon and honey coming through than ginger!

welshwarrior
Nick did you use a big lemon? I use a crappy little all we had left and it's not to lemony but a honey is a strong taste in it
Thunderbird
I must start mine soon. I was advised by a PW member to be careful not to include the lemon pith as it would impart a bittter taste. But then PW members will take the pith out of anything. Beardo
used a big one (pith and all), doesn't taste bitter, just too lemony. i'm going to add some powdered ginger to see if i can make it more gingery.

Spaniel
Mine does not taste as strong as i like it, only diff i know i that i got the ginger root from asda and not the wine making shop this time, so will pop over there in the next week and then add some fresh make to the mix and see how that goes...i like it burning the throat
figgy
used a big one (pith and all), doesn't taste bitter, just too lemony. i'm going to add some powdered ginger to see if i can make it more gingery. I put too much lemon in mine nick after reading about Kings ginger as the after taste is a citrus kick so over did it but getting some stem ginger and grating it fine did the trick the ginger gets you in a choke hold till I put a bit more honey in now it's lovely.
