Cottonseed
What is generated in taxes is lost in NHS treatments. IMO. The revenue raised by tobacco tax is several times what it costs to treat smoking related illness. This, of course, is helped by the large number of people who die of tobacco smoking. Drinking costs the country more because of its effects on family life, accidental injury, RTAs etc., etc.
smokinggun
I smoke cigars maybe one a week, also i'm currently smoking some cherry brandy flavoured rolling tobacco i was bought for christmas by a workmate as i always liked them when i used to smoke cigarettes, i have cut down a lot compared to when i smoked cigarettes constant but i probably wont give up completely as i enjoy it to much, I also only smoke outside away from others never inside, i think you gotta have some pleasures in life i work loads of hours and enjoy a nice smoke on my day off or when sitting at the riverbank fishing through the night. A lot of respect for people that say enough and stop though.
johnbaz
Hey up all I stopped a 50 a day habit in '06 and for some reason, it didn't bother me at all which is strange as if I left the house and forgot my fags, I had to go back for them  I stopped boozing over twenty years ago after remembering the next morning that I drove my car after about twelve pints and could quite easily have killed someone- a sobering though But after stopping smoking, i've piled on three stones and though the other two excesses were easy for me to give up, eating is much harder imo All the best for the new year everyone John

DSPUK
Gave up fags (Is that now politically correct?) in 1972 but could do with starting to smoke the weed as I hear it's good for arthritis. dave
jacksdad
I've heard that the herbal stuff can be ground up and sprinkled on hot milk, or even added to pizza for us non-smokers............

Does weed mean cig's to everyone else. Can the op clear this up for me. Thanks Its the time of year when new year resolutions are made so come on fellow member give it up Not a smoker myself so don't understnad the addiction but think about your children when they are at your bedside watching you cough up your net curtain lungs and sucking on oxygen to breathe  Well yes, normally I'd agree that 'weed', in the modern day vernacular, would indeed refer to Cannabis. However, the tone of the OP's initial post does seem to refer to general smoking rather than recreational drug taking, does it not?
