Ackley
lovely shot without a dought, but how many shots did it actually take to make a hit,Iam sure he must have missed a few to get the elevation and windage correct, espeically the wind but still damm good shooting
Frenchieboy
That was one real corker of a shot with a 17HMR at that range and shows the capabilities of this very underated round when used by someone with the experience and marksmanship abilities - Not that I would feel comfortable trying that shot myself. sako751sg
I think he shot a rabbit and its noo deed.Happy new year to you too.
Alycidon
Sorry to put a dampener on things but !!, the 4 sheep in line with the shot, any richochet ( and rabbits live in sandy soil, so stony!!) and one of those could have caught a bit of shrapnel. At 250 yards the chances of full bullet break up are reduced. All seems to have gone well but I would have let the sheep get to a safer angle first. Bloody good shot for the caliber as well. tonyrapid177mk2
ive got a cz455 .17hmr i shoot rabbits with it out to 100/140yrds which i thought was good but it just shows with a bit more practice how good the .17hmr can be that was a very good shot by anybodys standards

A Do you ever pull the trigger on anything?? Un seen in the grass to the left was an adder, if he'd got the wind wrong he may have shot a protected species!! get a life mate. It was a great shot dialed into the scope so less guess work. We are on sand land here in places and there aare no stones in it.(how anal is that when you are guessing the soil types). 17gr bullet at that distance will have reduced chance of break up but after hitting the ground would shed even more energy, never mind bits of bullets after hitting the ground. Besides the camera is NOT looking down the scope therefore the angle will be decieving. HMR is to "light" for sheep anyway according to police guidelines. Evil Elvis
Not that I would feel comfortable trying that shot myself. Come on Frencieboy....whats the worst that could happen? YOU MISS?
FOXHUNTER1
Seen it before , outstanding shooting, Why do people feel the need to criticise other people who can shoot long range . Its quite a talent which involves a lot of knowledge and practice at what they are doing. Brilliant shot in my book

Vipa
Come on Frencieboy....whats the worst that could happen? YOU MISS? No... the worst that could appen is you seriously injure the bunny, perhaps blow a leg off or it's lower jaw, the bunny then makes for cover and you lose it, leaving it to die a lingering painful death! Or doesn't that matter?
zx10mike
the wind is the hmr week point half moa at that range is vertually no wind so within hmr ability no problem.still a good shot.

Vipa
The same could happen for any shot you take.. But it's all about managing odds.. that's why you won't find many stalkers taking 4-500 yd shots on deer (the full bore equivalent range-ish) Sure, they are probably capable of doing it if the conditions are favourable but the longer the reach, the more can go wrong.. With a HMR, a gust of wind that would change POI by an inch at 100 yds could move it 5-6" at 250yds.. Just not sensible. I'm not going to spout on about respect for quarry, but don't you think, if we are going to take it upon ourselves to end an animals life we are morally obliged to make sure we do it as quickly and painlessly as possible? Taking long range shots drastically reduces the odds of achieving that. Edited January 4, 2012 by Vipa
Frenchieboy
Come on Frencieboy....whats the worst that could happen? the pelt man
Sorry Not for me Field sports to me is all about out smarting the senses of the beast and/or putting the meat on the table . The taking of this Rabbits life means nothing in relation to the shot. the shot might as well been done on paper, Its not so much Field sports as F1 and pushing your equipment to the limits. You could say that the shot was to put meat on the table but then there would be no need to mention the range as you could have got at least another hundred yards closer without the Rabbit being worried. At that sort of range with a .17HMR its more of a pot shot than anything else and best left for paper bashing. BUT Well done on a steady long range shot
