Cranfield
A nice bag. You say you shot them over standing wheat, did you use any type of decoys ?
ernyha
did you use any type of decoys ? Using an educated guess Cranfield i would say that Buzzer used just a rotor over a standing crop but i am sure he will explain his tactics to us. A very impressive bag though.
Buzzer
Cranfield, ern is right i never used any decoys, just my rotor. I noticed that the birds were droping in to feed on the tram lines, so there was no point in using coys as the birds would not have seen them form a distance. I used one long arm and one short arm on my rotor, with the birds angled into the inside as far as they would go so that they would show up, I also ran the rotor at a slow 30 rpm ( if ya watch pigeon looking to drop in on standing stuff they fly slowly) This is one of the times that I will use my rotor on its own as I dont like to use the rotor every time that I go out ! Cranfield
Thanks Buzzer, I shot over some standing wheat last week, with just the rotor. I didn,t have the same success as you I wasn,t very happy with the presentation and thought about going back this week, with just some long stemmed floaters. I only have the "standard" arms on my rotor. Perhaps I should think about getting a pair of extenders.
Teal
I used one long arm and one short arm on my rotor, Does this not affect the balance? Might have to try it myself. P.S. Cranfield thought you avoided shooting over the summer?
Cranfield
If we are not travelling , or I,m not fishing, then I,m usually pigeon shooting. I am not fishing this Summer, as much as I usually do. The last trip to the US, rather spoilt me on the piscatorial front.
M ROBSON
I use the Pinewood rotor and tilt one arm high and the other one low. This has pretty much the same effect, you just have to make sure the tripod is well secured.
ernyha
Cranfield, ern is right i never used any decoys, just my rotor. Thanks Buzzer but before Cranfield and others bombard me for tips on decoying, my conscience won,t let me keep our secret any longer. Early Saturday evening Buzz and myself had a chat in the chatroom where he disclosed his tactics to me. Cant wait to get out early in the week and try it myself. A.R.P.
Hello Buzzer, Two questions? 1a,Nice pictures,What's the name of your new camera. ? 1b, How easy is it to download them to your pc? 2, If thirtyrevs is your slow speed what is your fast speed.?Mine runs at eighteen revs slow speed, thirty revs fast speed Do you think i am missing out.?
Buzzer
A.R.P......The name of me new cam is Mustek DV3000, cam corder, still pic and web cam. I found it hard to down load pictures to my p.c to start with...even though the cam comes with all the soft wear! but got the hang of it now, I think ? 18 rpm seems a bit to slow to me, are ya sure its 18 rpm ? my fast speed is 45 rpm wich I think is to fast! but im sure some one will tell me differant? fastest I would run is 40 rpm on a windy day! Using one short and one long arm dont seem to effect the balance of the rotor, I just think it looks more real, been using the rotor like this for a couple of years now, seems to work for me. hope this sorts out some of the questions for ya.
