Two things come to mind. Me and my brother playing on an open building site (not fenced off in anyway) and going into the unfinished houses and mucking about. Second thing, Who remembers the bbc theme tune to their coverage of the 1978 world cup in Argentina. I you tubed it and still like it.!!!

Jumpers for goalposts, sneaking behind the bike shed for a fag / snog, walking down the road with my Gamo CF - 20 slung over my shoulder and no one calling the police, learning to drive on the beach with my dad and actually meeting up and speaking with mates face to face. Those were the days and I feel sorry for my daughter growing up in this technology ridden, impersonal and intolerant society that we used to call Great Britain.:no:

I bought a Spud gun and a cap gun in a fit of nostaligia from Amazon the other day :yp:

How could I forget driving my Citroen ZX, my mates brown Vauxhall Nova and a Vauxhall Cavalier round the schools 400m running track at night in our own version of autocross.........and nobody ever called the plod!!

We did the same at Hylands Park (where the V Festival is held)

When we got to the gates the park warden was there. He took our (fake) names and addresses and let us on our way

Can't imagine what cack you would get into now......Section 59, careless driving blah blah blah.

In the words of a song I can't remember the name of "Those were the days of our lives" :D

Now I can't even shoot a CO2 pistol in the garden without a PITA neighbour complaining because the nutter next door has a gun :yp:

That song'll be Queen then :good:

I've just recalled something else:

My mates dad had a pig farm, we used to wait for him coming back from collecting the 'pig bins' from schools etc. as he also collected out of date food from a few shops, he would have loads of cakes and stuff that he'd saved for us to eat!

Just imagine that today, he'd get arrested!

Blimey, I seem to pre-date some of you. Anyone remember Twizzle, Fireball XL-5, Supercar, Champion The Wonder Horse, Casey Jones, Robin Hood, The Buccaneers?

I think we tend to look back at the past through rose tinted specs TBH.

I remember them all and most of the other lot. How about Jack Hargrieves in Out of Town and of course Quatermass. Used to be on the telly every week, Brilliant! We used to have great fun playing in the woods, making dens and trying to entice the odd female down there. If you managed you were regarded as a stud. Fishing on the pier at Southend in the summer for the mackrel with feathers or sequin strip. Potting off the pigeons off the roof or the trees in the garden, great fun.

The best bit was you hadn't got a care in the world and everything was rosy.

I remember Quatermass,Fireball XL5,Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. What was the underwater one with the mermaid?

Anyhow,I keep urging my kids to get out and about which they were keen to do when younger....they'll look back in years to come and say,'Remember that day we walked striding edge'(Lakes Fell)but I doubt any of them will look back and say,'Remember that day we played on the PS3 all day'.Or perhaps they will!

I honestly feel , youngsters have to much these days and having to much cuts down thier concentration..

the sad thing is..its our fault, we wanted to give them more than we had...

It's true. I now realise that I spent so much time working to give them everything, that I didn't give them what they really wanted - some time with me.

I think it's a common mistake.

Wasn't it Stingray?

Totally agree on other points I have loads of great memories of getting in to scrapes as a kid, avoiding the police (not for crimes) but mischief like garden hopping, getting on the school roof etc.

I wonder how kids who stay in (a lot because parents won't let them wander too far) will manage to to develop their social interaction skills or will they only be able to talk to each other through electronic devices?

I've made a big point of getting my kids out and about in the real world, too many these days are mollycoddled and not allowed to find their own feet unaccompanied by their parents. If they know the difference between right and wrong, be aware of dangers [which frankly are the same now as they were 40 50 years ago*] have good manners and respect for their elders and people in authority then they won't go far wrong.

*I distinctly remember back in the early 60's when a mate of mine were building a den with straw bales in the field at the end of our road and being approached by a creepy old bloke with a pocket full of porno mags and him inviting us into the woods to have a look at them. Needless to say we told him where to go and legged it back home, told mum who told dad who had a word with the local plod who used to always be around and about on his bike.

You know what, I'm going to say it again.

I like how you all talk about how good the days where when you where little, only to become the generation of the most overprotective parents in history.

I read it the first time you posted it,and being neither over protective nor a politician,I ignored it.Is this intended for someone in particular or everyone in general?Do you know that the people on this thread are over protective towards their children,or are you just trolling for a response?I'll play if you like....on what evidence do you base the above statement?
