aister
i got a leupold rifleman 4-12x40 with leupold scope covers for £180 on fleabay, there is one on there just now going at £72. i love my leupolds and think the redfields would be good too for the money. i have a vx-1 4-12x40 on my .223 and it usually sits at x8 so a 3-9x40 would probably do me although it is good to have x12 when laying up waiting on the bipod, very happy with leupold :good:
Frenchieboy
You might want to have a look at the Simmons Pro-Hunter 3-10X44. I have used one for quite a while on my .243 before going over to the un-named 8x56 - The Pro-Hunter is now on my HMR! The optics are crystal clear, it holds it's zero no matter what recoil you offer it, it works great on the lamp and J S Ramsbottome are doing them for well under £100! The Simmons Atek also has a very good reputation and doesn't cost very much more than £100 from Ramsbottoms also, again it might well be worth considering! I am so impressed with my Pro-Hunter that I am almost certainly going to put one on my .22WMR as soon as I got it for both rabbits and foxes on the lamp! bicykillgaz
Dearstalkerlunt off here had a redfield 3-9x50 for £175 they are made by leupold apparently so should be well worth the money. another guy was selling a hawk tac30 fixed 10x42 which should be plenty mag that was £
bullet boy
On a Budget of £200 and for Lamping then I'd recommend the very popular Simmons Whitetail Classic 3.5-10x50.This scope is superb value for money plus good clear glass and a 50mm objective lens that is good for gathering extra light especially for Lamping! Bowen20
MTC Viper 6-24-56 fantastic optics and only £220 brand new depending where you go. Or £170 second hand I have one on my .223 howa and shoot out to 300+ yards with it hopefully going catton park next month to TRy and shoot some targets at 450 yards
scotland rifles
i have both a leupold and a S&B scopes for sale both very good but not in the price range, i would go and have a look at some of the scopes mentioned barring one, do not bother with any of these two makes hawk and MTC scopes mate, they have a very big problem when lamping, they both white out and suffer very badly with glare back as well. save up a bit more and get a nice quality scope, ah ha just thought of one, try looking for a meopta 7x50 cracking glass and spot on the cash you have, bob. i have both a leupold and a S&B scopes for sale both very good but not in the price range, i would go and have a look at some of the scopes mentioned barring two, do not bother with any of these two makes hawk and MTC scopes mate, they have a very big problem when lamping, they both white out and suffer very badly with glare back as well. save up a bit more and get a nice quality scope, ah ha just thought of one, try looking for a meopta 7x50 cracking glass and spot on the cash you have, bob. Colster
As above, a Meopta would do you nicely. Failing that second hand Pecar, Lisenfeld, Leupold would give you a much better scope for your money than anything with Simmons, Hawke or MTC in the name. bullet boy
Another good make of scopes which are excellent value for money is the Nighteater range from Nikko Sterling. My mate Andy(camokid) on here uses the 6-24x56 Nighteater on his .223 to great effect!Just looked on Uttings website and this particular scope is £184.99.Great value IMO! mr salt
simmons are clear for the money. i like them
huntsman
Redfield are brilliant scopes for the money,as has been pointed out in an earlier post, the optics are the same as leupold 3 manufacturers branded names Redfield, Burris, Leupold all similar in optics but not always on price. for that calibre, I would not go for the 40 mm objective lens,I would opt for the 50mm or 56mm something on the lines of a 3-12x56
bullet boy
IMO i think you would need a scope with at least 8x power for Lamping. James above mentioned the 7x50 Meopta and its an excellent scope,it may be fine for your eyes, but for me its no less than 8x mag for Lamping. the enigma
If you can, checkout a Nikon Prostaff. I have 4-12x40 and think it's pretty good. The current range are in around the £200 mark, but Uttings have the older model like mine, for £119.....£45 less than I paid last year. The newer models have finger adjustable turrets unlike mine which has the coin slot type.
