MrPhantom
After a recent disappointing trip on the rape using my battered old decoys I reckon it's about time I treated myself to some new kit. My existing decoys are around 25 years old and the plastic non-flocked type - a mixture of 20 or so full body and shells. My question is - would you recommend buying a dozen flocked decoys as replacement or (and I'm very tempted to do this) get 10 sillosocks uv jackets to slip over my current ones. Cost is roughly the same. I've done a search but there is very little feedback on these jackets - do they work? Any advice appreciated. A mate, however, recently purchased some flocked shells from UKSW and were not nearly as good quality as the ones i've had for years- be careful what you buy. All this said, any new decoys won't necessarily mean you will get more sport.
Cranfield
I would certainly recommend the Sillos UV slip over jackets for your current decoys. A few years ago I put them on all my rather tatty shell decoys ( flocked and unflocked ) and they are excellent. They slip on like a sock, so I cut the "bottom" and stick either side to the inside of the shell with double sided tape. That means you can still stack the shells and remove the sleeves in the future if you want.

steve_b_wales
I bought the jackets, and fiteed them on a few shiny decoys. They worked a treat, and are well worth the money.

chrispti
I too have used the jackets on some old shells (MPK off of here has them now)they worked fine Edit to add; Before I purchased the jackets I used to spray paint the old shells with a matt grey primer when they got a bit tatty, and tip ex the white parts on. That also worked Edited February 12, 2012 by chrispti
mpk
I have used the sillosocks that chrispti kindly sold me and have had a few good bags with them, they work perfectly well and I will buy more at some point to bulk up the ones I have. Great way of updating decoys without having to "shell" out ( couldn't resist ) for more. Well worth the investment
