new to the flock
I bet you could set up a swap with someone for a days long netting, learning the art of pegging, for say a afternoon shoot on the farm,....or in exchange for a day learning some craft you know YP.....Drinking and womenizing are not considered crafts. Pigeon Pieman
Yep, my brother's basement is full of long netting. Usually gets a good work out in the winter. Set up in the day, dropped in the dark. Lots of running about follows!!!! B)
brooktrout
Fifty years on since the introduction of myxomotosis and were still talking about longnetting. Great stuff, and a victory for the humble coney that has beaten the system
vimm
Piggy pie what method doe`s your brother use then when long netting?
Pigeon Pieman
Hi Vimm, Bro's basement is just to keep 'em dry and tidy! We usually set them out around lunchtime, sometimes two or three days in advance. Bro developed a clip thing that allows the nets to be gathered at the top of the poles, then dropped by pulling a series of pins all attached to a long chord. This allows the nets to be dropped long after setting them up, once Mr Bunny has got used to them. Drop them in the late evening (after dark) and walk Mr Bunny and family off the fields into the net! Hey presto!! Lots of bunnies! B) He also found some odourless spray that waterproofs the netting (although most is man made now anyway) so leaving them out isn't a major issue. This process works well in our area - near the South Downs with acres and acres of grassland. Sometimes we use them as stop nets to stop bunnies running from one bury to another if the areas of holes are vast.
tiercel
If you look in the photo section under" pegging the tools" there is a photo of the tools that you need to go pegging. Its not the only meathod by any means but it works well enough. And you can do it single handed.
vimm
So your bro uses the drop nett method then. No need for the waterproof spray and god would you need some tins for a 100 yard net, lol. Just wondering doe`s he also use the traditional drop method and also the ready sett method??
