yankeedoodlepigeon
Hi All. How could I get the Bronze fitting on my boat clean? I have tried autosol and a rag but after 10 minutes got a little bit on the edge clean. I hope there is a better way or its going to take years could they be sonic cleaned? Thanks Ydp
Ricko
I have used this process on brass, might work for bronze Nitromors first to get remaining paint off. Dry it off then cheap brown sauce, vinegar in sauce will remove tarnish. Clean thoroughly using very very fine wire wool. Spray with clear varnish/lacquer Edited April 2, 2012 by ricko

Blackpowder
How about one of those soft buffing disks you get for pedestal grinders. Blackpowder
figgy
As previous poster stated Soft buffer with bar polish brings them up a treat.Look for a local metal finishers, they will do it for you. You could try some fine wire wool wrapped round a dowel in a drill first won't cost much and worth a try. ditchman
I do up and sell old seagull motors, and the best way to clean bronze like the seagull enjine bracket is to take it apart and leave it soaking in boiling water to which you add caustic soda, from the ironmongers at £2.50 a can, then rinse it off an scrub it with a bronze wire brush like you clean suede shoes with.......... careful how you add the caustic soda it bubbles up, i use half a can in a icecream container.....DONT PUT THE CAUSTIC SODA ANY WHERE NEAR ALUMINIUM........IT WILL DISSOLVE IT !!!!! Vince Green
just soak it in vinegar . Requires a bit of patience but it works a treat. Edited April 4, 2012 by Vince Green
Andy H
On the old brass and bronze item's we used to bring up off of wrecks we used to soak in brick acid for a couple of day's.
Fisherman Mike
You shouldnt clean Bronze it is what it is... thats why it was developed to aquire a fine surface oxidation over time..or patina as its known. Just remove the paint with a proprietory stripper and leave it. If you want something shiny replace it with stainless steel. If you are determined to strip them back find a local grit blaster who will probably bead them for a tenner when hes doing another job.
