Question for the ballistic boys

Recommended Posts

I have just joined Christchurch gun club but they only have a 50yds range, my Sako 85 6.5x 55 is zeroed at 100yds 1 " high

where will the bullet be at 50 yds using federal premium

So it's not zerod at 100 yds Doc, it's zero'd at ??? and is 1" high at 100 yds...

As cockercas says, it will by pretty much the same as it is at 100, perhaps a 1/4" higher at 50... If you can tell me bullet weight and MV I will be able to give you an accurate answer. :good:

If you are using 140gr bullets @ 2500 fps - you zero should in theory be around the 140 yard mark (1" high at 100) - this would give you in theory a shot 0.61" high at 50 yards.

Try it and see though - I am not a fan of 1" high at 100 yards - but if it works for you.

Its just the way I was taught many years ago so have always used it. as you can tell I am not really into the ballistics more as you say what works for me, Its something that I should spend some time on.

As I am struggling walking more than 100yds at the moment its somewhere to go and play. and I can use up some of my 22 ammo

Doc... don't knock it... a bang is a bang at any distance..... never pass up the opportunity for a bang! :D

140gn Federal would that be the soft points power shock?

if you are 1" high at 50 yards then you will have a zero at 200 yards. you want 2.2" @ 100yards

for 1" high @ 100 yrds the you will have a zero of 154 yards

allowing 2650 Fps @ muzzle and 1.5" sight elevation.

At an Elevation Angle of: 0 degrees

Ballistic Coefficients of: 0.438 0.438 0.438 0.438 0.438

Velocity Boundaries (Feet per Second) of: 2080 2080 2080 2080

Wind Direction is: 0.0 o'clock and a Wind Velocity of: 0.0 Miles per hour

Wind Components are (Miles per Hour): DownRange: 0.0 Cross Range: 0.0 Vertical: 0.0

The Firing Point speed of sound is: 1120.27 fps

The bullet does not drop below the speed within the max range specified.

Altitude: 0 Feet with a Standard Atmospheric Model.

Temperature: 59 F

A couple of shots at 50 yards will give you a more accurate answer than anyone can tell you here!

My thoughts are that it will be quite close to its first zero point.
