goldypurple
Check the link out, it on a website for a local newspaper for Norfolk Do these people not realise that if foxes arent culled on these reserves that alot of the wildlife would not be their. http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/dismay_as_fox_cubs_shot_by_gamekeepers_at_strumpshaw_fen_rspb_reserve_1_1385932

Thedeerman
It says that foxes have monetary value and otters and hen harriers don't? What's the going rate for a fox nowadays?

Blackpowder
A few years ago a gamekeeper told me that the RSPB had used, under license, on their Ythan Estuary Reaserve the same banned pesticides which they condemmed the use of by others in predator control. I believe the issue at Ythan was black backed gulls almost wiping out the Eider Duck colony. hypocricy or what? Bewsher500
“In future, we will do as much as possible to deter foxes from breeding on this part of the nature reserve.” ha ha, they just did that didnt they?!
Reece
The cute and fluffy brigade are at it again it seems. No one complains about the culling of American Crayfish in rivers but as soon as a few cute and fluffy animals are shot...
Whitebridges
So Strumpshaw Fen is an RSPB reserve. There are several other "bird" reserves in Norfolk some of which are better known and managed than Strumpshaw Fen. We know for a fact that the numbers of Avocet on the Norfolk Naturalist Trust ground at Cley would not have increased to the numbers they have now without effective fox control. We also know that the turnary on Blakeney point would be non-existent if Charlie wasn't controlled. It is believed that Little Tern breeding populations were wiped out by foxes in their breeding grounds just to the north of Yarmouth Denes. There are others, most of which have a lot more sense than the idiots at the RSPB and their foolish members. scolopax
Alot of wilflife reserves control pest species when required, and good on them for doing so, whether it is the RSPB, WWT or county/local wildlife trusts.
wymberley
What are they going to say about the buzzard cull? Edit: Ah, just turned the TV on for the weather and noticed that the previous teletext headline and content which said, 'cull' has been amended to, 'capture'. Bit of a panic for someone there I would imagine. Edited May 24, 2012 by wymberley
