Picked up my new toy last week - 1996 Ducati 916 Biposto, 3 owners, 30,000miles (bit higher than I wanted but the pile of receipts and condition made my mind up and the price was right). Phenomenal bike to ride, loving it! :good:

Even better still is the insurance - £177 a year, comprehensive, including a £50 excess and breakdown cover. In this day and age I almost felt criminal taking it out!!

I'm expecting trouble being a Ducati  but I thought it would make a nice project to maintain it as I'm mechanically minded. Many thanks to gixer1 for his tips and offer to share his fountain of knowledge on these beasts! :good: There's a couple of small cosmetic things I want to sort out pronto - the paint's flaking off the engine casing (a known fault with these things) and some stone chips around the front mudguard. It came with an unfitted open clutch cover which I plan to fit, also at some point some carbon Termignonis are on the wish list.

It's a standard bike, clearly well looked after and I'm a happy boy!

Stunning Mark - and no problem - I'm not a fountain of knowledge on them I've just picked up all the wanings (a long list) people have given me!

Take it easy on it and keep it shiney!

And if you need any help feel free to PM.

Regards,

Gixer

Thanks for the replies guys, it is a lovely bit of kit, I'm really enjoying the V twin experience, engine braking is awesome (I've already had a bit of skittish rear wheel lock-up on the aggresive downshift  )

Went out on a long blast today, the alternator (GEN) light came on....still glowing dimly now with the bike switched off). Ducati electrical woes, couldn't even get to a full month without something going wrong  I suspect it is something to do with the regulator rectifier and thin stator wires

Nice bike that!

If the reg is playing up, swap it for an Electrex part, much better than the standard part and widely used by ducatisti!

Having said that I have three Dukes and the electrics have been fine on em all!

Same year as the one I had ( for a few weeks ) Hope you enjoy it and it's more reliable than mine was. Check the side stand, yours must have been sorted by now or may have had the problem fixed before delivery.

If you want the casing powdercoating get in touch as I can do it for you ;)

Cheers mad1 - the paint is flaking from the crankcase (as they all do). How could powedercoating be done? Engine out?

 I won't speak so soon, there's electrical gremlins which I've still not nailed down yet. What went wrong with yours?
