henry d
Working up some loads for .222 and 6.5 and when priming the 6.5 the first primer was a bit stiff to get in but I managed it in the end :o This was the primer after I got it out of the brass.......could have been a brown trouser moment

al4x
oh boy I have all this to look forward to when i start my reloading in the next few weeks its very rare doc but a nice reminder that if the primer doesn't go in easily don't force it! sako751sg
Slightest bit of unusual tightness and i always release and have a wee look for a problem.Dont fancy one going off by mistake and if the the primer hole has been cleaned properly it usually goes in spot on. majordisorder
I did my first ever load of priming last night. Two of the 250 I primed on-press felt wrong so rather than force it I just tried reseating the case, one then worked fine the other was binned. gixer1
So whats the script when a primer doesn't go in right yet wont come out? I know my think would be to soak it and "dispose" of it somewhere it wouldn't be found but whats the official line on it and if the primer won't go all the way in can you still get them out of the shell holder?? I recently bought an XR hand primer thingy-ma-jiggy but havent used it yet other than pressing out a few old spent primers and re-installing them whilst having a play. njc110381
So whats the script when a primer doesn't go in right yet wont come out? I usually go out to the shed, put on my face mask and a pair of welding gloves and smack it out with a punch and hammer. It's only a primer at the end of the day - yes it can take an eye out or cause minor injury to your hands but with a bit of protective kit it's not going to hurt you on it's own. It's when several go off in the tool that it starts to get more serious.
henry d
its very rare doc but a nice reminder that if the primer doesn't go in easily don't force it! A salient point, however I had just changed primers and this was the first one, I removed the other primers from the tray and tried to dismantle, however I couldn`t see what was happening so I was prepared for a bit of a shock and pressed on (sorry couldn`t resist). BTW - I always use goggles.
Underdog
Primers need percussion folks. Don't panic just gently crushing one. I would be more upset about wasting one than fearing injury! U.

Regards, Gixer i once tried killing primers with water and various oils overnight- i failed, they all went bang! funny realy because i am still fastidious about touching them in fear of the natural oils in my hands making them duff.
