I've taken the apparently WILD precaution of putting my certificates in a plastic wallet and they come with me when ever i have my guns with me and they're fine. :good: I don't use them as an umbrella or a clothe to wipe my hands so why wouldn't they be? :hmm::lol:

Its not an offence to not have the original with you when you're in possession of a firearm, but it is if an officer demands you produce it. Has anyone ever heard of someone getting their guns taken from them for not having them? No, but i'd rather be safe than sorry.

I keep a copy of my certs in my gunslips and the originals in the car, that way if I'm out and about and get stopped in a field I can show the copy and walk them back to the car for the original if needed. I find the originals get very worn and tatty quickly if I always carry them with me.

You are not wrong.... there is a difference to today's practices and what is written in the various acts.....

1968 was before any computer and a check of the records would be done manually.

But when the power fails and the lights go out the old rules are still fit.

Its like the recent article from BASC and your recent letter from hants..... BASC advice contradicts what Hants are saying about renewal and the FLO's allowing your licence to expire. Not good!

Its been said before

Plastic credit card style of licence accompanied by a paper counterpart for transactions / loans / purchases / ammunition. Buy a gun, enter on counterpart until its entered on NFLS. You should have read access to the system to ensure your details are correct.

Hants ACC is the lead on firearms licensing... let him know your thoughts

I think it's pretty simple.

Plastic card in wallet for instant ID check and legal possession, paper counterpart listing guns and details of conditions. The plastic card could even have letter codes for different sections held, and a bar code for scanning.

I bet their IT bods are talking about it.
