kiffy
hi guys, im hoping to get a shot gun certificate soon and am wondering if anyone could reccomend any decent shops in south wales worth a visit when i get it... gota stick to south wales as even though im in my forties im one of the rare breed that doesnt drive so have to rely on friends for a lift my budgets not going to be huge, especially as it will be my first shotgun so im looking at around £600. ideally id like a second hand gun to get better quality, 12g o/u and either a leftie or an ambidextrous as although im right handed, due to bad sight in my right eye i have always shot left handed. ive contacted one well known shop by email and after almost three weeks had no reply... i'd been told they are not the best at customer service but as their such a well known shop locally i had to give them a go. i know my restrictions on shooting left handed will limit availability so im wondering if any local shops will allow me to have guns sent to them? ive seen loads on websites that will send to an RFD so that could be one answer for me so anyone know any decent places i could go? MiLisCer
Where in S Wales, there are a few decent shops - but a narrower area would help. Mike

HDAV
If your a leftie might be a bit of a trek but try Lampeter Shooting supplies http://www.shotgunuk.com/ Sportsman in newport has a mixed rep but i have never had an issue (not bought a gun there) but they have a decent stock and will normally let you try secondhand guns at treetops if you are serious. http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/find-us/ Also CS sporting are newish in cwmbran http://www.cssporting.com/index.php?main_page=contact_us I travelled to Rugby to buy mine. http://www.gunshoprugby.com/ at Keens it always seemed to be too much hassle to serve me, South and West i bored of waiting behind people who just go in for a chat, not been to neath... Bales in Cardiff don't have much stock but are pleasant One tip is don't bother emailing, they are all pretty usefless, ring. kiffy
at the moment i shoot airguns, this is my first go at shotguns... im a total newbie as far as they are concerned keens.. they are the retailer i mentioned in my initial post, i had heard customer service wasnt as good as it could be as was also mentioned by another member above but i emailed them as they are one of the larger shops and one of the closest to me. but when they dont answer it puts me off.. i have since phoned them and got a price one one gun that a friend of mine is looking to buy.. and i may in the future as i do like the idea of a cheap semi. they as it turns out are £400 and outdoor life in hengoed are almost 10% cheaper. not a huge amount of money but enough for a fair few cartridges south & west sound promising so does sportsman in newport, both close enough for me to bum a lift out of curiosity is dj litts still going in newport? bought my first air rifle of them and still have it 23 years later
HDAV
Sportman bought litts when they went bust 3 years ago ish? Same shop different name if you want a cheap semi then buy a hatstand and be done...... You can get them for £340 new on guntrader left handed too Edited July 12, 2012 by HDAV

Gee.
Phil Ash @ South West Country Sports in Kenfig Hill Will only use the rest if I cant get what I need from Phil. Also, Ed Oakley (eddoakley on here) is a decent chap to deal with and very knowledgeable, he's a 'home based' RFD in Cwmbran.
