harrycatcat1
I have just had half an hour to kill and I got my small backpack out that I take on the marsh with me I thought it might be helpful for the newer chaps than me to discuss the subject. I know some folk wont take a bag but I like to. I have a head torch and a wind up torch a pair of binoculars some cartridges (just in case) in a bumbag thingy with a zip on. a small towel for the dog a pigs tail with spare lead a pair of thinsulate gloves a balaclava just the eyes showing a spare warm hat room for the flask and sausage rolls for me and the dog. It may sound a lot but this is for winter not the September coming you may get through with a bottle of pop and sun cream In my pocket of my coat I carry a compass and a whistle attached, I got caught with the fog dropping on Kirton marsh in my first season. Oh and my wading stick is about 5ft long and folks take the urine out of it but its come in handy a few times. I am sure there is something I have forgot oh yes the gun I sometimes think I could do with one of those donkeys off Skegness beach Add what you take. edited to say dont forget the camera Edited August 5, 2012 by harrycatcat1
Reabrook
I'm another one that carries far to much. I have a small pack designed to carry carp fishing leads roughly 6x4x4 (that's inches for the younger members) and in that I have a small survival kit containing Space Blanket Sharp knife Means of starting a fire Spare Compass Glow Stick Spare torch Spare gloves. Whistle All together it weighs less than a 1lb and having been seriously caught out in the past I don't go on the marsh with out it. I check it at the beginning of the season and then (hopefully) dont touch it again until I put it away in February. If I don't take my normal bag it goes in my jacket pocket or I take a smaller/cartridge back. I'm not advocating everybody carries or needs one it is personal to me. Rarely do I never take a bag as for nothing else it is always handy to sit on plus I like to stow my coat/top layer and do any walking as lightly dressed as possible. if it's raining then I put my mid layers in the bag and wear my jacket. kent
Depends were and when. essentials are a torch for letting others know your in possision already as they approach and a flask of coffeee. trick is not to take what you dont need, not take everything you might. Why has nobody mentioned deeks?
Wildfowler12
It all depends on where I'm going and what I'm going for. Sometimes I'll just take half dozen teal decoys, and carry a whistle in my pocket, but typically I'll take something like... Flask Energy drink Food (share with the dog) Torch Knife Gun, strapped across the top 25 non-tox cartridges 25 Texas rag goose decoys 4 duck decoys Duck whistle Duck call Goose call My phone (with GPS) A lightweight waterproof Waterproof over trousers Hat Gloves And most important... Emergency bog roll! (Although, I've not had to use it yet) Sometimes I'll take bino's too. Yes it's heavy, and I have up to a good 4 mile walk each way. I wont shoot more than 2 geese a flight, as it's a lot of weight to carry on top of all that, I learnt that the hard way last year Edited August 6, 2012 by Wildfowler12
dazco2121
I found out the hard way. One of the most important things to take with you is some sort of pull through, to clean the barrels. It is a long walk back to the car after falling over and getting a barrel load of mud. And completely missing the flight.

ayano3
I take a flask, double mars bar, cartridges. Pull through just in case, leggings if using Wellington's. And this season I will be using a gift I was given by someone I took out last season, its a mountaineer's sealable bag that's 100 % waterproof. My car keys, membership card and phone will be in it. It's a brilliant bit of kit guys.
silver pigeon 3
Just a quick question, what bag do people use? i need to replace my old one. I have decoy bags etc but was looking for something small just to put a few bits and bobs in.
ayano3
My Mrs got me a 15l camo ruch sack, before that I had a gme bag that was made by the prison service many years ago, I was given it by a Wildfowler so its many years old, i still prefer it to the ruck sack, but the ruck sack does have a few poskets etc that are useful. Fal
If me and a friend are going we always take two way radios, much easier to keep in touch or to let him know if there is something coming his way. On top of those, gun, cartridges, GPS with Compass, mobile phone, camera, plastic beer crate to sit on, keeps you nice and low and weighs hardly anything, food, torch and flask.
