Couldn't help but see this come up on the news on my phone, after watching the video I was thinking how the English police would deal with the situation? the time it would of taken for a firearms unit to get there the unthinkable could of already happend, after being pepper sprayed 6 times he was still standing, and wielding a knife until he swung at police when he received 12 rounds, is it about time all police carry a taser or a side arm?

Way over the top.

He's plenty close enough to have been tasered.

Plenty of cops carry taser in this country, and no I certainly wouldn't want them routinely armed.

I've never seen a normal officer carry a taser unless there arm response, do even US police carry them as a standard side arm?

that's just awfull - I hope it never happens like that here - I hope the UK public can hold a camera/phone the right way up so we can all get a good look at bad guy getting shot -- well I assume he was shot as I couldn't make it out.

Well with the sound on you can certainly hear the trigger happy cops go for it says 12 rounds fired, I think it's pretty sad tho it was a tourist attraction with people getting photos with the blood stain :/

I thought only armed police in the UK were trained to use Tasers?

Nope, quite a few forces issue Taser to non firearms officers.

Not sure if all US states use them, some certainly do, NYC it seems, don't.

That vancouver video is brilliant lol Well done the big cop :) Dont wont to watch the other one to see someone shot dead! That can never be a good ending regardless!

I was try to work out what he was carrying a star wars replica light saber or a double roll of red wrapping paper, you don't see him shot there's a car in the way.

Well he managed to be shot 21 times by police and survived

Now how the hell is that possible?!?!?

I firstly think that no one here can argue as to whether it was over the top or not. If a person in this country has a knife in a public place and there is possible imminent danger to the public, that person is then deemed as 'otherwise so dangerous' therefore the justification is held within the officer. Like in the US clip. What we can't see is if the male shot was about to stab someone, therefore endangering their life. I my opinion shooting someone that has the potential to kill another is justifiable.

The question I put to people, if the member of publi was one of your relations that the offender was going to stab/kill what would you want the police to do. My answer is, stop that offender at all costs.

In regards to the taser question, all firearms officers in the UK carry taser and for about the last 18 months specific trained officers that are not firearms trained carry tasers.

Sorry guys but tough s£&* on him - he ran along an extremely busy place (you can see kids in the video) with a knife - I would say its a classic case of suicide by cop, now some family will try and make him out to be a saint and claim millions from the state...

If you don't want shot - don't run around streets with knives waving them around!

Wish we would take a harder line here instead of picking on the easy targets - police here won't challenge pikie theives or fly tippers but show them a guy eating his sandwich in slow moving traffic and they'll jump all over it!

We need to get out procedures and priorities in order!

It's a rarity that there isn't a less lethal option.

Baton round, taser, sheild tactics ect.

Obviously I wasn't there and the video doesn't show but unless there is immediate threat to life of a person then the shot can't be justified.

12 times, come on that shows absolutely no control. Did any officer there even see what the outcome of the first bullet hit was? If that had the desired effect of stopping the threat then how can the next 11 be justified?

People slag off English police all the time but for the best part they get it right. The tactics here were awful.

Yeah the English police would just put 6 rds in your head for sitting on a train minding your own business. :hmm:

He was I tent on doing harm, due to this he was fair game - maybe the next knife wielding idiot will tho k twice before he strolls through a tourist attraction full of families with a knife.

A warning shot or even a "shot to the leg" may have zero immediate effect - therefore the officers need to ensure the threat is completely neutralised - this means using more rounds - it's as simple as that! The police ran along the road giving the man warning after warning - what else could they do? Why should they have to run in with batons and risk and officer being killed? And baton rounds are fine if you have preparation time

You will find most persons who are in a position to use firearms on humans (soldiers/police) will put a couple of rounds at something even if hit the first time - this ensures it won't fire back!

If this guy had knifed a kid in the passing what would the opinions be then?

Obviously if he wasn't an illegal imigrant he wouldn't have been here and therefor not got shot.

Anyone who has had the mis fortune to deal with the American police will know just how good ours are.
