Wildfowler
This is amazing!! I assume a punt gun needs to be proofed? by a proof house I mean? How will you work up your loads or have some other gunners given you a load to follow? This is amazing! I'm please you like it... Post 550 covers the proofing I think? The loads are in a couple of books and my friend is a big help... Do you think you'll get a shot out of it this season? I bloody hope so!! No guarantees of course but I will be tryin my best! I'm pretty sure I'll have a shot. Success of the shot is a different story!
Wildfowler
I drew up the black powder boxes yesterday lunchtime... Here it is if anyone wants to use it. Edited August 16, 2013 by Wildfowler
Wildfowler
I started building them last night. I used some of the left over ply from the punt. A bit of a waste of marine grade but its just sat in the way otherwise. I started by cutting the sheet into the right sized pieces and linnishing off the edges Then i set the router up and cut the slots Then i glued and screwed the sides together and screwed on the base
Wildfowler
This is the pair with lids resting on. I'll get out there after dinner and start on the partitions, hinges and hasp.

Wildfowler
yes, the powder has to be kept in quantities of 550g or less, in plastic containers within the box...

deershooter
Are you allowed to use screws ? I was under the impression that it should be dowled and glued with no metal parts ? Deershooter
utectok
Waders are a good thing in fact, they provide additional buoyancy as long as you don't try and swim in them, then they will fill and drown you. Chest waders are even better, just adopt a position like sitting in an arm chair. Have a look at the Harrison Ballista life jacket. Compact, 150 Newtons and DPM camo. Good advice although swimming in chest waders will not drown you I've done it a couple of times and I'm afraid it's simple a myth. Once the waders are full of water they are perfectly neutral bouancy wise
Andy H
Are you allowed to use screws ? I was under the impression that it should be dowled and glued with no metal parts ? Deershooter The box should be constructed so that there is no exposed metal on the inside. Internal nuts must be covered by a glued wooden liner not less than 6mm. Wildfowler
I cut and linished the partitions tonight and used the router to cut the slots I used the band saw to square off the bottom of the slots and assembled them. I'll do the hinges and hasps tomorrow...

Wildfowler
Yes, that's a good video. My concern isn't sinking, the physics don't stack up... My concern has always been the fact that its mid winter so the water is 0 - 2 degrees and the bank to most of the estuaries are a vertical 4ft. So if you go in, you have to try and climb back out with an extra 10 kilos round your ankles with the onset of hypothermia... Best thing is to avoid going in i suppose! Wildfowler
I had to go fit a new rear spring to my L200 this morning so didnt get started on the boxes until late. I rebated the edge of the box and lid to take the hinge.
Wildfowler
I cut the hinge and screwed it on and put the intumescent seal around the top I then made some handles and glued and screwed them on. Here are the 2 boxes... Edited August 17, 2013 by Wildfowler

Wildfowler
After a bit of a clear up i started on the cartridge. I got some brass from work a few weeks ago as they were going to scrap it so i got it cheap. I've faced it off and drilled it out so hopefully will get it finished tomorrow. Wildfowler
Half way through the second from final cut, it started to vibrate due to the thin wall. It screamed so loud it was almost debilitating... I ground up a HSS tool and finished it with that This it the head
