Wildfowler325
I live in scotland and have always used lead shot for Wildfowling This year i'll be on the foreshore for a few outings. I'm not going to spend stupid amounts of money on cartridges e.g hevishot or tungsten matrix. Any one recomend a good steel load? Thunderbird
I've got a couple of boxes of Gamebore Super Steel, 32gm, shot size 4, for duck.
anser2
Gamebore mammoths 36 gr in no 3 are ideal for normal shooting ranges , but go up to no 2 Remmington sportsman for high flighting mallard in a full afterchoke. If you are after geese Remmington nitro steel 3 and 3.5 inch loads of BB or better still BBB take a lot of beating. But full afterchoke is a must with BBB as the pattern is going to be a bit thin otherwise. The golden rule when using steel is go up at least 2 or better 3 pellet sizes compared to lead. Steel shoots very tight patterns compared to lead and you get more pellets to the oz in steel. Edited August 16, 2012 by anser2

I all ready use 42g (closer range) & 52g (longer range) BB's in lead for geese and use a extra long extended choke in 3/4 (adds 2" too your barrel)
Albert 888
I've got a couple of boxes of Gamebore Super Steel, 32gm, shot size 4, for duck. Great for me,not not so good for the ducks pattern very well with 1/4 choke at 30yrd for my gun.

I'm glad to hear that because that's exactly what I've got in mine. I don't have a wildfowling cannon like so many others do!

I tried it with half choke and the pattern wasnt as good. I couldnt understand why but thats what happened.Just a bit of info you get around 212 shot in a 32g number 4 70mm gambore supersteel. Wildfowler12
When considering loads that are readily available in the UK, Gamebore steel takes some beating IMO, the 2 3/4' Super Steel right through to the 3 1/2' Mammoths are brilliant
Yoggy
I think the general concensus is that Gamebore take some beating, including myself. I do have a soft spot for the Remington loads though. Thats when my local stockist has them in that is!!!
Thunderbird
I use Gamebore for pretty much all my shooting.
xav
Same as everybody else here, Gamebore 3' or 3.5' are doing the job. The Winchester super X Steel are also excellent but expensive.

Fal
Gamebore 36gs No3 do the job well for Teal, Wigeon and close Mallard. Anything at the top end of shotgun range I would push up to No1s in Mammoth Steel. I have taken high Mallards down with the No1s stone dead. wildfowlingmad
I agree with the gamebore theme ive just stocked up on some more. They are affordable and last season had mostly good clean kills with the 3" mammoths, and i have yet to have a stopage/miss fire with them in my auto! Bows
I'm after some 36g steel in size 3 or 4. Can you tell me the best cartridge and what price they usually sell for?
xav
I got some Gamebore Steel Mammoth 36g for £3.90 (per box of 10) when I ordered
anser2
Most of the gunshops in Norfolk do Gamebore 36 gr 3 inch mamoths for £3.00 ( last year you could get them for £2.40 ). I bought a couple of hundred last week. I would shop around before getting any more xav.
kent
Gamebore 3" no3 for me on duck and 3 1/2" no1 in the same for geese with the auto 12. 1/2 choke for both works well for me. Use other stuff in other guns and other chokes. Have a s/s that shoots Hull steel 4's just great through skeet chokes up to a max of 35 yds 9good for flash shooting and teal. The 10 bore seems to like Remmington Nitro steel as did the auto 12 till i started getting regular fail to ejects due to the overlong cases compared to gamebore 3 1/2's
