Only in GB could something this absurd be suggested.

I'm sorry to tell you that's not true.

You get just as many absurd suggestions the world over.

Generally speaking though, it is only the British press that insists on publishing stuff as if it's news.

Most other places (well, the ones where I've lived anyway) tend to publish the stories like this in the 'other news' section.

Just between the stories about getting abducting by aliens and/or seeing Elvis.

As for the proposal, clearly ********, dreamt up by arguably the UKs most extreme animal rights organisation - I'm surprised The Torygraph gave it space. Should be roundly rejected and seen for what it is - an attempt to marginalise a law abiding group because one set of individuals sees fit to attempt to impose its morality on another.

Brilliantly put.

Animal rights is in the news the world over, but as Britain has good animal welfare laws, it is about "rights" over here, while in some countries, it is about genuine welfare concerns.

That's why suggestions from animal rights groups over here seem a bit extreme and ridiculous, as the genuine welfare concerns have pretty much been covered already.

I get Sporting Gun each month, but I have subscribed to it and have it delivered. I've been to many shops that do not stock it, including some branches of supermarkets and chain shops. When I have bought shooting mags in shops, a fair few times I have been made to look like I'm dealing illegal drugs by the checkout assistant or at least been given a decidedly unpleasant look by them. If they are made top shelf, it can only get worse and joe blogs will assume that shooting is a particularly shady pass time and not socially acceptable.

I'm very glad the article has no comments section, asi ti would be flooded with Anti's and thier bilge.

I can understand why you may be indifferent, but you have missed something out.

If shooting magazines go on the top shelf, then all it does is further the warped message that shooting is "wrong" and "immoral".

The antis could never ban shooting all in one go. That's why they're trying to erode it bit by bit with stuff like this. We should not sit back and pretend it doesn't matter.

I get your point entirely, and agree that the antis are trying to erode shooting bit by bit,and that we should not sit back and do nothing. But what exactly are we going to do about it?I can't see any of our shooting organisations spending money on a campaign to fight this sort of idiotic point scoring by antis, can you?If you want to start an e-mail campaign to combat it then Iet me know, but it may just be you and me taking part.We simply don't have the numbers who are interested.

Are angling mag's on the top shelf? If not,why not? After all, don't they,by the same logic, glorify inflicting pain, trauma, injury and death on living creatures, for fun?Now that would be different;there are millions of anglers in this country, all shoppers and all voters.

Which supermarkets completely refuse to sell shooting magazines please?

FM

While in Carlisles Kingstown Tesco some years ago I asked one of the manageresses why there were no shooting mag's on display as I was looking for a shooting times, and was told they didn't stock shooting mag's.Whether this was store policy or company policy I have no idea, nor whether it is still the case,I don't regularly shop in Tesco.

None of the local Co-Ops sell shooting mag's either, but I don't know whether this is policy or not,but it wasn't too long ago that they were refusing to sell venison due to its association with shooting.I believe this ended when the opposition started selling game of all varieties.

That's odd Scully I take it that must be your store policy as it can be got at the Tesco's up here in Orkney ! .

I had a row in Croydons W H Smiths as they didnt sell Sporting Gun but did stock Gay Times ( honest I only noticed it was there when scouring the racks ) . They now stock it after I complained loud and long. I also but Shooting Times and Sea Angler from my local Martins. Once had the whithered hag on the till complain loudly about them selling "killing mags" so I suggested if she didnt like it she far cough and get a different job.

I believe shooting groups such as BASC are opposed to shooting magazines going on the top shelf, but it isn't a hot issue at the moment. It will be if the campaign gathers momentum though.

Apathy is as big a threat to shooting as the antis themselves, and it does frustrate me a bit when some shooters ignore anti shooting campaigns saying stuff like "BASC will do it for us", etc.

Didn't that anti shooting MP Chris Williamson join this campaign?

Chris Williamson would join the Brownies if he thought it would get him some exposure.

Animal Aid planned an anti shooting week to oppose our 'Shooting Week' just recently gone, and I think this campaign is part of it.

What a load of rubbish!

What about all the rubbish on TV or music popularising murder, violence and drugs? What about promoting "alternative" sexualities as being normal?

Only plus side I can see is the magazines may as well include naked women in them then...

Quite right...I saw some Animal Activists at a rally once and the women were all Lesbians...some of them were even kissing each other in public.... what sort of example is that for young Children. Many of them had leather shoes on, woollen jumpers and were eating BLT sandwiches... Bloody hypocrites.
