First of the season

Got up this morning to visit one of my perms that has a lot of duck goose traffic coming off the river this morning, arrived at 6am and from what I can gather was a bit late

Walked up to my usual spot that I used to shoot last year only to see they were crossing a few fields across from me

On my way to the said feild a large skein of geese started heading my way, they were a good way out but very low so with my first shot of the morning I get a nice Canada!

I had a few more shots but I shot like a tit and didn't get any more

Not a bad start to the season if you ask me, first shot and 1 in the bag. Will be returning This evening to see if I can bag a few more :)

Just back ...good flight for the 1st shot 2 widgeon and a mallard well pleased.Lot of widgeon about, most I have ever seen on the 1st.Also fair number of pintail which all flew on without a feather disturbed  .

Fair few Canadas got off the mud but well out over the marsh.Good seaon ahead hopefully.

Up at 0445 car parked up by 0500 early morning hike to prefered area of shore and hide set up for 0600. I forgot how far it was and with a rucksack on the back. Plenty of duck moving about but way to far out as the tide was very low. First geese seen in the air around 0620 very high and way off to my right and I could not believe it when I saw them set there wings and fly down to a grass field about 1/2 mile away. More geese came past in groups of 10 to 20 to high and to far out and then some in a bit closser had a crack or two but missed. A big skein of around 70 came in at the right hight and just above me and my first greylag of 2012/13 in the bag and will do for Sunday roast.

I may go back out tonight for the evening flights but again the tides are all wrong for me.

Up at 3.00am, on the marsh by 4.30am, raised a good dozen ducks off their splash, but no shots taken. Had a lovely morning decoying and mooching around the marsh, didn't come home with any birds. Mental note to self, bathe in mozzie repellent before going or take the stuff out of the car with you. Feeling a tad lumpy today!!!

You lazy devils I drove across to shep whites car park at 21.00 on Friday evening arriving there at just after 23.00 expecting a party going on in the car park, a few cans a barbecue or some thing, nothing diddly squat, so I went to sleep in the car till 02.30 when the rest of the gang turned up.

To the original op 06.00 :lol:
