Im heading up to Auchencairn for a week at the beginning of November, how is the wildfowling in this area? looking at maps it looks good, are there any spots particularly worth a look or avoiding altogether?

Mainly barnacles around Auchencairn or no geese at all.. thats been my experience

Don't blab on a public forum u complete tit ! U happen to be blabbing about a patch of merse that I've shot for years ! It's a quiet merse ! If you decide to keep on posting you will get chased off the shore by many of us ! So get a grip and shut up

I'm all for guys trying new marshes but to give out details is just crazy !

I for one if I find birds normally won't say anything until asked and I will tell only friends.

But some fowlers even people you think are friends will not let on a thing about any1 ! Trust nobody on the marsh apart from yourself and your dog !!!

Mark has a very good point , information on wildfowling sites has been flowing a bit too freely since the start of the wildfowling section. I lot of people read this thread who never add posts. If I were going to the Solway , or Lindisfarne or the west Wash I would know exactly where to go , which creek to hide in and what birds to ecpect , from the information this section holds. I hasen to add I have no intintion of visiting any of those sites. By all means enjoy your wildfowling experiances and we all love to read of wildfowling exploites , but "The Wash" or "North east coast" or "SW Scotland" is all the site information we need. Many of the sites mentioned have open access to all who want to buy a permit so if you do not want to find a nest of gunners there next time you go to flight your favoured creek I would suggest for your own sake keep the details a bit hazy. You may not be going back to the marsh in the near future , but spare a thought for the locals and remember wildfowling is not a team sport. And one more thought do not forget this is an open forum and nodoubt the antis also read it at times.

If anyone realy needs info on a marsh then communicate by PM.

Neither is the Solway ! And a Solway goose is sought after by many! But it's made to easy by half wits who spout off stuff on a forum making it to easy for travelling guns to just arrive armed to the teeth with lead shot and 10 bores and 8 bores!

As a local I get down when I can to see what's there using petrol and working out tides and flight lines off the shore which to me is part of out witting a true wild bird! Weather conditions etc!

So why anyone after hard work or even just luck on finding a flight of geese would tell the public on a forum is beyond me! We are trying to keep numbers here not scare them away when we get some geese in ! You go down to a marsh that normally has a couple of cars parked on a week day to find 5 cars there and only a handful of geese ****** me right off!

Well we had our trip to the Solway and I have to say we had a great time. We saw a few geese and managed to bag a duck or two which was a plus but have to say if we hadn't shot a thing we would have still had a great time. Was just good to have a few days away.

Tend to agree with this, i don't even tell the old man what's happening incase he blabs to someone else. I don't see any harm in helping a visitor but PM is probably the best way to do it
