grasshopper
Had a conversation with Bazooka Joe the other day about the Fox-Pro thread on here and he reckons they're just over priced MP3 players.I was quick to point out that it did better than he did the other night...and only 80yds away. Back to the story.Couple of fields been combined over the weekend so we set up on separate fields a mile or so apart. I parked at 1 of the farms and had to cross half a dozen fields to get into position. Chose a gateway that joins both fields and walked 60paces down the wall, placed the Fox-Pro on top of the wall and returned to top of the field. Chose a preset which i thought was a mouse squeak but was actually a Rabbit call. Ah well i thought, just let this play.Put the remote into my pocket, picked up the NV,looked down the wall towards the caller and there is a Fox looking at it already.. literally 10seconds later.Field goes into a slight dip then over the brow it drops off into a wood, guess the Fox was just here out of sight. Panic on as i attach the Archer and mount the rifle onto the gatepost. As i pick the Fox up,it's heading off away from the call as is usual...what's not is that it turns around, sits down and just looks at this plastic Rabbit on the wall squealing. Straight forward heart shot at less than 60yds and a big Dog Fox is accounted for. Few more calls tried but nothing shows so i pack up and head off to meet up with B'Joe,dragging the Fox across 3 fields to the road so we can use it for training his dog today. Was heavy i tell ya! When i meet up with B'Joe,he has had a Roe doe within 25yds of him and she is still in the field. All he has seen is Badgers,so after letting things settle, i walk out some 50yds to another straw bale, place the caller and return. We give it 5mins to re-settle (Roe Doe still unfazed some 130yds away) and choose a call.Joe reckons that as the Rabbit call worked earlier, why not try that again. Good call,as literally 1-2mins into it,i pick up the unmistakable bright eyes 200yds off at the far end of the field. It slowly starts in then picks up the pace and is soon only 60yds off.B'joe is shooting this time and he has his .243 with LF 140 on top.I am watching through the NV and when the Fox is only 50yds away and starting to head for the caller,i mute it which stops the Fox and he lights it up.Fox turns and heads back down the field but only 10-15yds and a little lip squeak stops it looking straight at us...She is duly dispatched with a shot to the chest and i proceed to point out that " the overpriced MP3 player has worked yet again" So 2 less Fox about with the Birds due to be released from the pens anytime soon, a job well done. Thanks for reading GH

Bazooka Joe
Perhaps BJ`s call brought it in from afar and yours brought it the last 200 ? I told him that at the time HD but he would have none of it.... ... Yep, good bit of kit when it works....good to have a shooting bud with a light weight model. Always complaining opening the gates for me, & having to carry my Bang & Olufsen Jumbo Model,.... so he bought a Foxpro.... ...

al4x
nice shooting, the foxpro seems like marmite to foxes they either love it or hate it round us. Cub wise they are devastating adults all depends if they have seen one before, one of the better bits of Kit I've bought over the years

al4x
You won't regret it, here is one from last night with the same combo, archer and overpriced MP3 player but with added German wirehaired muppet. makes finding them on stubble easy which with NV can be hard to tell when you've checked for any more in the field. This one had been playing hide and seek with me for ages just showing on the edge of a cover crop each time the caller was on then going back in. Had another at 300 plus yards to the other side of the wood and it was a wait to see which came closest first. Wind was terrible straight behind me blowing their way so took this one quartering at about 150 yards, thats the exit which with 75grn vmax seems to be smaller than when I'm using 85grn soft points. Both had been seen a few times lamping but no chance of getting near so the stake out worked in the end. Just have the other to get and that will be our partridges a little safer. Good going It's a lethal combination that makes mopping up them shy Fox a little easier. :yp:
al4x
The annoying thing is you rarely know if it's the shy one you were after as there is no way of knowing.

Liam-1990
I made an electronic call using a 12v lamp battery, mp3 player/phone, Aux lead and one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ELECTRONIC-SIREN-WITH-PA-MIC-CAR-ANIMAL-SOUNDS-/280818319411?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4162138033 its a bit bulky with the battery but it works fine maybe not as good quality as the others on the market but I had the stuff to make it lying around so thought Id give it ago.
