Hornet 6
If Nitromors is not working then you are in trouble. Have you worked it in well, and tried scrubbing it off with a stiff brush ? Neil.
Bluebarrels
If all else fails mate, try the strippers in Tiffanys (Aldershot) they get everything off BB
Rimfireboy
Try caustic soda mixed with wallpaper paste. You can make it as strong as you want and it's really cheap to do.
kent
The trade version is stronger, work it in with a very stiff brush and add more rather than nuralise too soon. Just a note it is a laquer your removing not an oil?
karpman
No its an old laquer used a qtr of a tin of nitromors the new improved stuff to next to no effect have tried agitating it and kept applying. Scully
Nitromors is now a waste of money as the health & safety body have tampered with it .I know because I use a lot of paint/varnish strippers on a professional basis, and following many complaints from tradesmen and women,my local supplier will no longer stock it.Polycell do one which is mild but effective, but the one I am using at the moment(due to Peelaway not being available)is called 'Stripaway LV',which is a paste and is coated onto the wood, covered with a membrane to create a poultice, then peeled away after anywhere between 30 mins and 48 hours, dependant on age and consistency of existing paints etc.I only use this in 12kg tubs and apply it with a plasterers trowel,so I'm not sure if smaller amounts are available.Have a google to find out. It is the dogs danglies. Edited September 12, 2012 by Scully
sandspider
I used some stuff called Paint Panther (from Toolstation). Not as vicious as old school Nitormors, but it does do the trick if you leave it a bit longer and reapply when necessary.
huntwithhounds
Try neat acetone in a well ventilated place, apply with soft brush, wear eye protection and work slowly. Keep brush wet and it will wash away most finishes, keep applying and wipe away what you have removed quickly as it will start to stick again as it drys. I have just removed a finish with acetone that nothing else would move. It drys hands so wear rubber gloves, check your gloves in the acetone as some gloves disolve, acetone it not too hazardous as nail varnish remover is mostly acetone.
