Nitromors is now a waste of money as the health & safety body have tampered with it .I know because I use a lot of paint/varnish strippers on a professional basis, and following many complaints from tradesmen and women,my local supplier will no longer stock it.Polycell do one which is mild but effective, but the one I am using at the moment(due to Peelaway not being available)is called 'Stripaway LV',which is a paste and is coated onto the wood, covered with a membrane to create a poultice, then peeled away after anywhere between 30 mins and 48 hours, dependant on age and consistency of existing paints etc.I only use this in 12kg tubs and apply it with a plasterers trowel,so I'm not sure if smaller amounts are available.Have a google to find out.

It is the dogs danglies.

Try neat acetone in a well ventilated place, apply with soft brush, wear eye protection and work slowly. Keep brush wet and it will wash away most finishes, keep applying and wipe away what you have removed quickly as it will start to stick again as it drys. I have just removed a finish with acetone that nothing else would move. It drys hands so wear rubber gloves, check your gloves in the acetone as some gloves disolve, acetone it not too hazardous as nail varnish remover is mostly acetone.

im stripping a stock myself at the moment...just using B&Q own brand stripper, seems to be doing ok

was considering a making new thread to follow progress pics through from strip to finish and test various finishes on the stock..ie oil only, dyes, stains, coloured dyes, etc..will need to see what the grain is like on this old stock i have first to see whether its worth doing!
