WoodyPopper
My current collection is proof that you don't need to spend big money to have fun shooting. But I have to admit that, just once, I'd like to buy something a bit less tatty! When I got back into shooting, I didn't have my permission so was only shooting clays. Although I've never been keen on O/Us, I bought one. Now I'm saving for a new gun and I'm aiming for a budget of around £650. I want a side by side and an AYA No. 4 seems to tick all the boxes. But I wonder if I'm being blinkered. What similar guns could I get for that sort of money - and would any of them be a better buy? Are there any decent new guns for that price? I want an S/S ejector with 28" barrels, concave rib and a straight grip. I don't mind whether it has a double or single trigger. Chokes probably 1/4 and 1/2 or similar., and 2 3/4 chambers. It would be great if it looked good but I'd rather have something plain and good quality than something trying to look better than it is. Any suggestions? shaun4860
Have a look at a new Baikal
welshwarrior
AyA no4 is a very good choice and for £650 you should find a nice one. I'm an AyA fan and think they are generally better than the other European stuff in the same bracket.

WoodyPopper
Had a look at the Baikal thanks. Unless there's an option to have a straight grip, I wouldn't want it. To me, a pistol/semi-pistol grip on a side by side looks all wrong.
goldeneye243
I got a cracking no.4 for less than your budget. Great condition and even better when I did the stock up
Gutty Boots
As you have already said an AYA no4 will tick all the boxes for that price. They are great guns & will outlive you. I wouldn't advise a new side by side in that price range. A few years ago you might have got a XXV for that money, but you will be able to get a nice no4, probably with several to choose from too. Yes, I am bias, I also own one!

Dont be looking to put more than 30gr through it though, recoil will be worse than an O/U. Eley Impax 28gr are so so sweet in my No 2. Catweazle
I like AYA, but there are alternatives. I have a Black Sable Deluxe, made by Armas Garbi ( a very good maker ), they are available for £500 or less. Worth a look. http://www.gunstar.co.uk/Shotgun/Sabel-Black-Delux-gun-for-sale-gs91817.aspx http://www.armasgarbi.com/english/armas.html
Thunderbird
I've got an AYA no.3 which fits me beautifully, and it has a bit of right cast on it (which I didn't know about when I bought it but was brilliant when I found out) and because it fits me so well and comes up so naturally I could shoot it all day in a t-shirt and not feel a thing. Having used shotguns for some years now I have come to believe that felt recoil is 90% gun mount. I like the semi-pistol grip, as an owner of O/Us, a SxS and a semi, who regularly swaps between them, it makes for less awkward feel when I'm using it. I like the non-ejector element too, the ejectors on my O/Us I find rarely ever get used to actually fire the shells over my shoulder.
