Is this the work of Charlie or Natural?

Walking through my local permission testing out my new rough shooting gun ( Essex sbs 12G) that only cost me £100 :) and came across this dead sheep by the wall with another about 50 yards further up.

There is a buzzard flying about on the prowl but this sheep looked 2 big and too much of a mess for a bird of of prey to have done. It looked like it had been mauled. I know its hard to say but I also know that some members on here are very knowledgeable.

Thanks all Lewis

realistically that could be anything, its unlikely it was a healthy sheep killed by foxes. More likely it dies through natural causes then all manner of scavengers have picked at it, starts with rooks and crows then foxes, badgers even dogs will have a go.

Its looks pretty clear that a bird of pray has been feasting on it. Meat stripped of the bones and the wool scattered about. Broken bones and teeth marks in bones would mean a fox/badger has had a go. It is a bit strange that there is another 50 yards further up. Is there a road near by?

I would be inclined to think that as this is an adult sheep it more than likely died of "natural causes". It is unlikely (IMO) that a fox would kill a healthy adult sheep but you could not rule out sheep worrying by dogs - There are so many possibilities!

When this happens (In most cases with any farm animal dying of either natural causes or whatever other causes) if the carcass is not removed you will be surprised at just how quickly the scavengers will latch on and have an easy meal. These scavengers can range from Corvids, Birds of Prey, Foxes, Badgers, in fact anything that eats carrion will feast of this free meal table! When it has been dead and lying there for more than a few days the carcass will soom get opened up (Often by foxes or badgers) and the bones etc will get stripped clean in no time at all by the scavengers making it very hard to decide on what the cause of death was and exactly what has been feeding off it.

Just my thoughts, but I could be wrong!

Lewis Mate, Just a quick question about those Alphamax Cartridges. I have some Aplhamax 3 inch Magnums loaded with 46g of BB that i keep handy for foxes. If yours are 3 inch magnums please do yourself a favour and make sure that your SxS is proofed for 3 inch cartridges before you try them!

p.s. If it is proofed for 3 inch magnums hold on tight when you try them because those 3 inch Alphamaxes are likely to give your shoulder a bit of a "nudge" especially in 3/4 and Full choke, so if you pick up a bruise we will want to see a photo - In colour!

Have fun mate!
