well this is the first chance i have had to post this was picking up last friday and saturday so went out sunday to a fresh cut bean field arrived at 9am and put well over a thousand pigeons off the field and after 15 min they were starting to flight back to the field so having shot 165 off this field when it was sown i had a good idea if the flight lines .i set up half way up the field on the edge of a strip of wood that splits two large fields and this is where the pigeons want to flight to when entering the field . the birds were not keen to come to the decoys at first and figured it was the hide that was spooking them so after i had hid the hide a bit better it was game on the birds came well but in large flocks all day what was strange was that single birds didnt want to comit to the pattern where as the large flock 50-70 at times would just drop straight in the shooting was constant but at 2.30 pm it was like someone had turned off the tap guess they had found a field where they had peace to feed with birds lying all over the field from top to bottom it was going to take a bit time to clean up with bud one of my cockers he had worked hard on saturday picking up at a 250 pheasant day with only three of us picking up me verminator 69 and our gary and 16 dogs between us picking up so it was a lot of work for the dogs but bud put in a nother hard shift and 45 minuts later i had picked most of the birds but had a few still lying in a wood at the bottom of the field and in the fields and as bud looked nackered i stopped him picking and put him in the motor i picked (well bud did )74 in the picture and picked another 15 after a drive round the field and a rake through the wood .(i couldnt bielive how big some of the pigeons were really fat and full of fat)so 89 pigeons for the day not bad but noticed the pigeons are starting to pickat the rape now so will need to watch that

as i left the field i caught a glimps of a fox walking over the rape field next door so it was a quick dash back home 10 miles drop bud off and feed him pick up the rifle and my daughter emma who wanted to lamp for me and back down to the shoot for 6 pm we had a look round a few fields including the bean field i had just shot thinking it might be having a look for dead birds we had missed but no joy there so we went for a look in a stubble next to the farmers house and there it was three fields from where i had seen it earlyer i handed emma the lamp ( she has lamped for me in the past )and i got the rifle out over the bonnet a quick squeek and it came stomping in at 100 yards it got a shout and stopped on the spot one more fox plugged thats 51 one foxes now a vixen and a big vixen too

Great day out, cracking bag. Bud looks out of it  Thats cockers for you......run til they drop

The birds round here have flocked up in the last week, and have taken on that typically skittish attitude, flying around as one swarm, not unlike starling flocks  Makes decoying them really hard so you did well :good:
