Cranfield
There seems to have been fewer wasps than usual, this Summer. In the last few weeks, we have seen some very sleepy specimens around. I expect the milder Autumn has enabled them to hang around a bit longer. They do hurt when they sting, you have my sympathy. Teal
I didn't get stung and haven't for a few years, I agree there didn't seem to be as many wasps this year (although maybe thats due to ireland having more wasps I don't know). I did see a hornet last week it seemed very lethargic, as far as I know there are no hornets in ireland. Just need a good cold snap to finish them off I guess. brooktrout
I got stung last year by one of those big grey hornets while clearing out some ivy from a wall. Surprisingly not as painful as a wasp sting, but it itched for a fortnight afterwards. Wasps do seem to be getting scarce though, probably due to the same reasons as the songbird and butterfly decline, yet those are now making a comeback. You are honoured Tiercel, not many of the ******* left!.

brooktrout
Tiercel, The biggest wasp Ive ever seen {and you know that the boys across the estuary dont tell lies} was two inches between the eyes, and weighed just over a pound and a quarter.. Dropped him with an Alphamax no 3 in the choke barell!
