hopefully the rifles were without there bolts,i would think likely the owners licence will be visting the shredder if not facing charges.

There but for the grace of god go all of us!!! as long as he has taken reasonable precautions to secure them, i.e. take a working part with him and put the firearms in a locked boot or out of sight under a tonnau cover then, in the eyes of the law, he should have nothing to fear... if he hasn't taken reasonable precautions then he deserves everything he gets..

Sometimes, leaving guns in an unatended vehicle is totally unavoidable or logistically difficult... let's not get all high and mighty!

, but how likely is it that he removed the fore end from the shotgun?

I always do if leaving the gun in the car.

I sent visiting a friend down south to do some deer stalking and pheasant shooting. I had the shotgun and rifle attached to the car with a security cable and took the ammo, bolt and forestock into the services in my cartridge bag.

Generally I always plan my journey to avoid leaving the guns in my car on their own but I guess this guy was at best unlucky or at worst negligent.

I was outside a certain gunshop around 3 weeks ago where there was a Focus parked, on the back seats were 2 rifles of some description..........they were just asking to be stolen.

I remove the bolts and carry the ammo from rifles if I have to stop and park as close as possible to any premise I visit. Theft is never expected or often planned for so I rarely remove parts from shotguns or the ammo. Somehow rifles seem more dangerous??

I'd best be a bit more careful with shotguns !

If I'm going up to Scotland or down to Bilsley I am looking at 4 hours plus in the car up to as long as 7 or 8... those journeys, whilst not impossible, wouldn't be very comfy, practical or pleasant without one or 2 pitstops. Ammo, bolts (or in case of Blaser... trigger)/forends come with me in backpack, rifle/shotgun stays in car in hard case, at the bottom of half a ton of other ****! I don't anchor it to anything but it would be difficult for an opportunist to get at.... EVERYHTHING else would have to come out first... on my Scotland trips that includes all my camping gear and a 160 litre coolbox that sits on top of it!

I really can't see any court accusing me of not adhering to the conditions on my ticket!

Looks like the owner might have had the bolts etc , rendering them useless .

They may not have been ditched otherwise. Could mean they might not be too hard on the owner. Hope not anyway!

How have you come to that conclusion?
