Bangon
Im thinking of upgrading my CZ 527 in .222 I can get a good deal at my local dealer. He has a Tikka T3 lite and a Steyr Pro Hunter mk ii. I like the feel and hold of them both. Ive read all the reviews and cant decide. It will mostly be used for night shooting foxes. So im going to be buying on tuesday, I am leaning towards the steyr. Anyone any fors or against any of the mentioned rifles.
gixer1
Both are great rifles so its really just down to personal preference! I like the tikka but out of the two I would pick the steyr.... Regards, Gixer

steve_b_wales
Being an owner of a Tikka T3 Lite in .243 (and once owned one in .308) I think these rifles are excellent value for money. But I would agree that if there's nothing wrong with your CZ, and you are shooting well with it, I would'nt change it.

Less popular with the younger crowd perhaps. Reason there is little after market stuff is they aint an American gun and with the greatest respect there are a lot of punters over there that will try anything if it looks cool

Gimlet
Nothing in it for my money. Don't own a Steyr but a friend does and I've shot it many times. Lovely action, lovely trigger, very accurate. My only quibble with the Pro Hunter is the extremely bendy fore end. Not an issue on my mates gun as its a stalking rifle and never sees a bipod, but if I was buying one I'd have the classic in walnut though they have got pricey now. Tikka action feels tinny in comparison but they're tough, accurate rifles and the triggers break like glass. Alycidon
I had a steyr 22.250 once, never again. Bought it new, it shot 3 inch groups at best, Steyr said that was acceptable as it was a stalking caliber. So for me anything but Steyr, A
Bangon
Cheers for your input guys, My CZ shoots ok. its a bit on the heavy side and the barrel is 24 inch which is a wee bit long. When i picked up the Tikka and the Steyr they just felt a hell of a lot better than my CZ. My Cz was my entry level to centrefire so im looking to move up a peg. njc110381
My personal opinion is that I prefer the controlled round feed of the CZ over the Tikka. It actually grips the round in the extractor as it leaves the mag so if you're led down shooting and for some reason reload with the gun on it's side the bullet will still feed. The Tikka will drop it out of the side! Not sure about the Steyr? The Tikka is also a big action for such a small round. I can hardly shout when it comes to buying new guns but if I was in your position I'd spend the money on a better scope (assuming you don't have a really posh one already) and having the barrel shortened on the CZ. Taking off 4" will make a hell of a difference to the handling of the gun and won't cost much - you must be spending a good few hundred quid to px an old CZ for either of the rifles you've listed and unless your current rifle is knackered or close to shot out I really don't know what there is to gain from it? JRDS
The Steyrs have a flexible forend (the MK2 as well) which equates to inconsistency off a bipod, I would steer clear. Edited January 13, 2013 by JRDS
