Royboy
Hi the police are coming to my house on Thursday for a check up and I'm a bit worried about some of the guns that are on my license that I don't own anymore. I traded them in a couple of years ago but ones still on my license and I didn't keep the other long enough for it to be marked on there. Do the gun dealers send of the paper work for the traded in guns ?

TJ91
Yes they should. You should also notify the police, if u did, you have nothing to worry about
Royboy
Good I'm glad to hear it ! I'm sure I notified the police but not 100%. A mate of mine said I could loose my license if guns arnt up to date !
TJ91
I always send recorded delivery and have receipt to prove postage in my certificate wallet. Keep a record of what guns you sold and name/address of buyer, saves alot of fuss If you didnt notify the police you could get a good rollock in bit doubt you would lose your cert

b16jus
I had a rude call from a firearms officer about a gun i sold in december, it seems 2 of the mails i send for guns sold havnt been actioned and aparently its my fault even though i get the auto responce to say received. What gets me is the rudeness and speaking down to people as if im a criminal really got on my goat it did
jackinbox99
Usually the gun shops will be good at sending the details off, but just to be on the safe side, i always send a letter to the firearms section informing them that ive sold a gun also. Gunnerbob
In Suffolk, the firearms enquiry officer gave me a couple of pre-printed forms which I can fill in and send off, by RECORDED delivery he specified, this to be received within seven days. further forms can be downloaded from their website. rainman_l
i use email only. saves money on a stamp. Some firearms departments encourage the use of email notifications on their web site. Just make sure you get a delivery/read reciept and file it.

I traded them in a couple of years ago but ones still on my license and I didn't keep the other long enough for it to be marked on there. Do the gun dealers send of the paper work for the traded in guns ? They'll find out soon just how accurate the records are, but all you needed to do was to phone them to check. And yes, both parties in a deal need to inform the authorities.
Royboy
I know it's fault of mine. Ill have to see what he says tomorrow but I can't see them revoking my lisence for this. I spoke to both gun shops I've bought and sold from and they said they will have everything on record

Ears
About 15 Years ago or so i sold a winchester 101 xtr o/u to some bloke. I notiffied the police recorded delivery. About 3 years later the police phoned me to say that on of my guns was recorded on someone elses certificate, and had i sold it with out notifing them. And they got really s-itty saying i could have my licence taken away. After a long search through my files , as Luck would have it that i still had a photo copy of the transfer form with the proof of postage on it recorded delivery. I wrote a letter to the police with a copy of the paper work. They never replied or appoligised for the hassle they had given me or the way they had spoken to me on the phone the week before. So always notifiy the police and keep a copy of there paper work on file forever, if they are gonna hassle you three years later like they did me. they are useless on all counts. And will enjoy being the first to **** you for there mistakes.
