Game shooting how it should be!

Recommended Posts

Just back from a great day shooting with a good bunch of guys!

After a request from Bakerboy (Terry) to see if I could help out a disabled shooter to have a go at game shooting I contacted a local keeper that I beat for to see if it was viable for a wheel chair bound gun to shoot on a walk and stand day, he was more than happy for someone less abled to attend, but the concern was him getting about the shoot and to the peg!

This is where Terry stepped in !

Next thing I know is, Terry has organized through Fieldsports Britain a Workmax ATV ( kindly donated for the day) with a driver from JCB to get Chris to his peg.

The first drive of the day in the snowy woods of Hertfordshire saw Chris fulfill his dream of shooting driven game! His face was alight at the end of the drive, his 2 birds for 4 shots will be forever etched in his mind.

The rest of the day saw everyone getting a chance of a bird or 2 & the craic & banter back at the shoot lodge at the end of the day was great.

Hopefully there will be a good account of the day on a forth coming episode on Fieldsports Britain.

Twas a good day indeed!

I happened to be on the peg next to Chris and he had some good shots alright (a real natural)! If i'm honest, I thought there would be an issue getting him to the pegs but there was none whatsoever! That little workmax went everywhere with ease and it was only a few moments more to get Chris into place and seated (he was shooting from his chair, not the JCB).

A real good day, great company...on a great shoot. Loads of birds, even this late into the season! The drive in the woods presented some great high birds but my favourite was the last partridge drive (5 in the bag on that one, thank you very much).

Thanks to Stealth Stalker and bakerboy for organising it. If you could organise me to remember my lunch next time, that would be great!

The best bit of the day was seeing Chris's face literally red with excitement. We also raised a few quid for Multiple Sclerosis which was great...

Cheers everybodypeeps

Well done guys. :good:

I shoot regularly with my friend who is also in a wheel chair. It does not hold him back, if he can get out he will go.

He is a very good shot both at the clays and on game & fowl etc. He also stalks deer and does some foxing & rabbit control on his families farm. If he cant get out in his motorised wheelchair he will some times go in an argo and we have at times taken him out in the back of a trailer.

We sometimes take our ability to walk about for granted and maby moan about sore & cold feet on a wet or frosty day. Its a pity we do not see more facilities for less able guns.

Again well done to all who helped out to make a good day for your mate.
