guss109
I rode pillion for a few weeks then I had to get my own bike so I bought a vfr400 nc30 grey import that was de-testricted and would keep up with the big boys on the twisty. Chr15j
I've ridden for 10 years, 6 of those regularly with a group of local riders, probably 40 or 50 in total. In that time we've lost one of our number in a bike related crash, and maybe half a dozen injured, none severely. Maybe your brother needs to find safer mates. Let me guess, with your brother or one of his loon mates? no, was my boss Ok so 50 of you and 1 died (2%) and 6 (12%) injured. Don't sound like healthy odds to me. m3vert
Cracking paint job on the helmet m8 dont see the point of the pitch black visor though?? surely if you are out and get caught either in a sudden burst of rain when the viz drops or end up driving at night, then you wont be able to see a thing?? Bit like driving a car at night with your Raybans on lol Sticking with Chr15j's remarks it is hard to defend that whilst it may be great fun and all the rest it is far from the safest means to get from A to B. I've witnessed the aftermath of car V lorry and car/lorry v bike and I know which I would rather take my chances in lol. But if it floats your boat go for it
walshie
Great looking paint job mate. I don't get all these anti-bike comments from probably non-bikers when the thread is about whether we like the paint job or not. Biking is as safe as you make it. Between commuting and pleasure I ride about 10,000 - 15,000 miles a year and have done so for the last 25 years. My wife rides a bike 6 or 7 days a week and so does my son. If we're talking about the SAFEST form of transport (which we weren't), then I assume walking is the way to go. gixer1
Love bikes, love riding them, have had some big powerful new'uns - but I would always admit they are dangerous... ...but, coming out of a corner at 140mph with the bike signing and squirming on a sunny day with your mates right next to you and lines of people waving you on is a feeling that is hard to match... The above was in the Isle of Man so all above board before the HSE police jump on it! Edited January 19, 2013 by gixer1

fruitloop
2 wheels bad, 4 wheels good! All road users are equal, but some (cars) are more equal than others! spoken by a true bmw driver
neil3728
Don't understand bikes myself much prefer driving some nice greenlanes or a muddy pay and play in the disco. (And no your bike wouldn't make it before you say anything) but thats just me, each to their own. Just be as safe as you can in whatever you do. I do like the art work that has gone into the helmet. Argocat vs your disco - if you're going to play offroad an Argo will show anything a clean (dirty) pair of heels! And your be surprised what some bikes will do offroad! neil3728
Argocat is cheating, it floats. I'd love to see someone on a bike go through a 3-4 foot deep so called pond. Not saying that a bike can't do it, i'd just prefer to be in the disco with a winch on the front so when I make a cock up i can easily self recover. -Mongrel-
no, was my boss Ok so 50 of you and 1 died (2%) and 6 (12%) injured. Don't sound like healthy odds to me. At no point have I said that bikes are safe. My point was that your brother rides with a bunch of lunatics/idiots to have suffered fatality levels like that! Knowing as I do that riders of a certain mindset tend to stick together, I'll keep my fingers crossed for your brother. Anyway, as you seem to be the risk averse one, I suggest that you sell your car. Statistically it's far too dangerous! You should get a bus pass, as you are statistically safer on a bus than in a car, to take you to the safest (measured by miles travelled) form of ground transport, namely the train, from there the country is your lobster! Personally I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than regularly travel by public transport!

The above was in the Isle of Man so all above board before the HSE police jump on it! Fantastic! I've driven cars on track and ridden bikes... cars are rubbish! Don't get me wrong, the car is probably as quick around the lap due to higher cornering speeds (although it will get wiped on acceleration), but the bike will be moving and vibrating and howling and squirming and drifting under you all the way round! Bikes are a visceral thing to ride, you feel so much more a part of the machine than you ever will in a car.
Tod
Love biking but bikeless at the minute , went all round the somme battle grounds a couple of years ago on my BMW i had at the time and loved it, cant beat the freedom and thrill of being on a bike, just need to be a bit more wary of other road users, nice paint job fella. Chr15j
The helmet is a nice piece of artwork but wearing it is a bit like having blue leds on your clio. Love it! You just hit the nail on the helmet! Risk averse, I suppose I must be. I grew up a but when my daughter was born, and with another two en route I need to protect my self as much as practicable. I never sky dived, I wanted to but decided to shelve that when luttlun was born too. Just being a responsible parent I guess.
