lewis2012
Hi all, I'm going out with the Hmr today and in the past I'm unable to get the crows to land. There's a field on my permission with a large banking in front, woodland to the left, large banking to the right. So I been thinking full came, face, 3D Leaf gloves etc and lay in the woodland with bread on the banking about 80yds away. I have several decoys and have done this in the past but they would not land! I even set up my ameristep hide and still no luck! So fi craft shouldn't be a problem. I do not have a dead rabbit or something like that to use perhaps get some bottles in a black bag ( clean of course ) and make it look like there's rubbish there? Most of the crows are down in the streets looking for food but ill use the caller to try and get them in but will they be wary of the decoys as in the past they just cawwd and flew over. Thanks all Lewis
karpman
Hey mate they will land to decoys if your lucky but there wary beasts. You need the right tool for the job at hand to be honest and the hmr isn't it. Karpman
huntsman
Get an owl decoy and they will be swooping down like a frenzy
aga man
lewis, i reckon your only hope of getting the corvids to land is to decoy them to something they actually want. a dead rabbit torn open or any sort of carrion even roadkill. place just a couple of good quality flock decoys or dead birds on cradles around the bait. some have had success with a fake nest of eggs, but i have never tried it. if something has guts/blodd showing the crows might well be tempted. as karpman says they are very wary birds. evo
asking a bit much without a rabbit, just go and shoot one with the hmr, open it up and place in the field with a few decoys then put the hmr away and get the shotgun out for the crows, seems like the best idea they (corvids) are not the easiest birds to kid but to be honest while your wasting time trying to get them to land you could be shooting many in the air with a shotgun

welsh1
I have had success by getting a bag of chips on the way out shooting and then laying it out where i want them to land, the white paper can be seen from a good distance and they know what a bag of chips is,give it a go you might be surprised. Makes sense! Our best way of finding the fox dens is to look for the McDonalds boxes. The restaurant is not in the town centre but on the edge in striking distance of the big Haven Holidays holiday park. The local scroats eat in a nearby industrial site before chucking the left overs/boxes out of the car window for Freddy to collect and carry his take-away home. Gunneravi
I used to ( when was doing a lot of air rifle hunting) use a crow decoy sat over a partly gutted rabbit. They'll land to feed on it. Bird o prey decoy is good with the 12 bore when swirling above it. Also if its near a tree they'll land in it so can be shot with air rifle. No back stop for hmr though. kent
30 odd grams of shot in them and they tend to land real quick, or a dead rabbit or similar Carion as far into the field as you can shoot with a rifle fired from good cover

Worked well for me too! It depends what they`re normally scavenging though,if you`re out in the sticks natural stuff will be better.
